Newly Braced-Newbie

#1 Post by tyrablu »

I cant begin to tell you how excited I was today. It has only been like 5 hours since they put them on but it did not hurt at all. I am now beginning to feel a little pressure, or maybe its all in my head. I only have the bottoms on, the tops will be on in about 6 months or so.

The only problem I really have is a lot of spacing. I didn't need extractions, or spacers (yeah me)

I dont have a digital camera so I cant post any picture, but i did take some with my phone, so if i can find a way to post those i will.

This website has been such a big help to me.

I will keep you posted on the progress

braced

Welcome aboard!
I don't have braces yet because I have to have my upper jaw surgically expanded. That is set for Thanksgiving.

Unlike you I am enduring spacers.

Hope you fly through this.

Hey Welcome

I'm newly braced too! Enjoy. It's been 6 days now and still have a hard time eating, hurts. Though getting better. My mouth is alot less cut up now which is good. Remember salt water rinses, it's been very good advice for me.

Good luck.
Most people on the list will tell you that the first few days with the spacers are the worst. The important thing is this is a procedure (most people on this forum refer to it as a journey) that hopefully will make a positive improvement for the rest of your life.

As for wisdom (thanks to KK), this is what she was told from her ortho on the day she got her braces:

The best gift I got on that day ... was many wonderful words of advice ...

Don't let braces change your daily life ...
Let this be a positive experience ...
Braces don't stop you from doing things, you do that ...
Attitude is everything ...
"Call me tomorrow and let me know how wonderful the first 24 hours have been."

Finally take pictures before the braces, and pictures in the first two days with braces. When you get disgusted with the process, look at the progress shown in those pictures. Even after a couple of weeks, they’ll give you great encouragement.

Welcome to the board.

Mike
I wore braces (this time) for 1294 days or 3 years, 6 months and 17 days.
But who's counting?
Jaw Surgery June 1, 2009
Thanks for praying for me and thinking happy thoughts.

My Ortho says maybe 2 1/2 years to close all the spaces and and get the right alignment.

The hardest part for me is eating it hurts, and the inside of my jaw is all cut up, it feels like i have a hole, wax is my new best friend.

Thanks to everyone for your words of encourgement and advise.
