Hi everyone, today is the day that my braces have gone on!
It has been a painful last two weks with extractions and then seperators!
And now as if things couldnt get any worse i have a mouth full of metal!
A bit about me..
I am 22 years old and have had crooked teeth for as long as i can remember. When i was young my parents took me to the ortho but never went through with treatment.
Now i am 22 and have been on a government waiting list for just over 2 years, and is my turn to have my teeth fixed.
I have always wanted to correct my teeth as i have a bad overbite and my jaw hurts quite often.
At the moment I feel ok! My mouth is quite sore and tender but otherwise i have shed my tears today and i just want to get on with it.
I have read others storeis about braces coming off... i almost feel like that day will never happen for me. My ortho has said 10-12 months if i am a good patient so i am going to try everything in my will to be that 'good patient'!!
Anyway til next time....
Day one with braces..

In response to lionfish: I just went to a goovernment dental clinic for a check up and mentioned to them that i wanted braces. They referred me to the ortho and then i was placed on the waiting list. I am not aware if it is only a WA thing but i was able to recieve a subsidy from the GOVT and having top private health cover helped too!
Day 2 today and not as bad as i thought!
My mouth is a little sore, i am finding flossing very painful and am not too sure if i am doing it right!!
Any suggestions?????
Also my ortho didn't mention anything about 'ortho' products to use while i have braces. Does anyone have any reccomendations??
I have read about interdental brushes and a toothpase and mouthwash with flouride by Colgate.... what should i be using????
Thanks for the support!

Well, I had no idea you could get any government support for dental here!
Flossing: if you're using Oral B superfloss, take the stiff pointy end and insert it behind the wire between two teeth, then gently pull down between the teeth and floss as you would normally. To remove, simply pull the free end from behind your teeth, either back up between the teeth or pull the whole thread through the teeth. With teeth further back, I find that angling the floss a bit helps get it into place easier.
Ortho products I use are wax (available at the supermarket, but see if you ortho will supply you free first), interdens brushes to remove bits of gunk from between teeth and behind/in between brackets (available at pharmacies) and a manual ortho toothbrush (also available at pharmacies). Some folks use electric toothbrushes.
Hope that helps.
