Questions and Process (UNDERBITE 1year 4months)

#1 Post by josephsantana »

Hey .. I can't believe Im in braces already 16 months.. incredible.. Im now on my first month of Elastics i think is call.. "Super Heavy 4mm" i dont know what that means but.. i notice that i could touch my top and bottom teeth now.. which i couldn't do 16 months ago.. but that came more with the elastics..

My question is.. is it true that some underbite can be treat with elastics.. cause My Ortho..told me before having braces that i would need a Surgery..but then 2 months ago one of the aids told me..that maybe i wouldn't need ..that he has to first see what results i get from the elastics..because one of his patient made it ..without surgery..

what you have to say about that? :?:

Hi!

I too had a minor underbite, which was corrected with reverse-pull headgear as well as class III elastics.
I saw more improvement with the elastics than headgear, so it is definitely possible to correct with elastics. (Of course, depending on severity.)

I wish you luck with the elastics - I hope you can avoid surgery! :D

Hi Josephsantana, I had a small underbite which did not require elastics or surgery to fix. Everything is now sitting where it should and I think this has been achieved by slightly widening my upper arch, and pulling in my lowers a bit (sorry, I don't know the technical terms to describe this).

Mine is all corrected as well just with braces. Powerchains on the bottom took care of the big gaps there & that seemed to be 1/2 the battle. Still waiting to see if elastics will be necessary or not but no surgery talk for months. I'm pretty optimistic. Good luck to you, too.

based on a previous consult i can get my underbite to what they call a class I case but that is as far as they can go with elastics with me, in my opinion anything is better than what I have right now. as the calendar turn to november I have less than 65 days till I get mine and I am getting willies or butterflies everytime I think of this.
