saving brackets?

#1 Post by Lyn »

Hi Everyone!! :D

I was wondering who has or will be keeping their brackets when they get debanded? :?: I have heard of several people that have kept them..........I'm not so sure I want to keep those little boogers. I want to say good-bye and good riddance!

Anyway, the day is getting closer and my teeth have actually felt tight the past couple of days. Can you believe there is still movement going on right up to the debanding date?!?

Take Care! 9 days to go...........yipee!

I thought my ortho would think I was crazy to want to keep them. My daughter (also in braces) asked the assistant if any patients request to keep the braces on debanding day and the assistant said that several patients like to keep them.

For me , I want to keep them. Don't get me wrong I would want them taken off ASAP ! For me it was many bad childhood memories ,as a teenager also. Now that I am married with kids ,it has been the BEST decision I've made and it's changed me for the better so for that reason I will be keeping them in a little bag in a memory box I have. Braces will deffinately be something positive to remember!

Good Luck on your debanding day! Please post pictures!

My wife wants me to keep mine. She has a couple of my old archwires for her scrapbook.

I have no idea why I would want them, but I suppose they are of no use to anyone else, so I will probably ask to keep them.

What I REALLY want is the mold/cast/whatever it is called! of my teeth prior and then when they come off. I will likely have to pay extra for this, but I think it is worth it! I want to see the difference....even though my teeth were not that out of line. (Mostly it was/is my molars)

I suppose I will ask to keep them. I am sure I am not the only one to ask this, though likely one of few!

Are you sure??? Has anybody else heard about the practice of "recycling" brackets? In my research, I've come across this. Apparently they can send the brackets to some company that cleans and sterilizes them (and I assume checks them for damage), then resells them at a discount. It's a way some orthos cut costs. Generally it works okay, but there can be problems with them not staying on teeth as well and possibly being slightly altered in shape by the previous treatment they participated in. Not to mention that many patients find this gross.

Anybody ever hear about this? Anybody have recycled brackets? Anybody calling their ortho to find out right now? :D I'm still not sure what my opinion is on this. I guess they are sterilized, so it's pretty much like surgical tools, which nobody gets grossed out by. What do you think?
