How far ...
Hi,
as I now have to go to a third ortho, at an university at about the other side of the
country, for each ortho visit I have to drive about 300 km (190 miles) in total.
And because I can't avoid major traffic jams each time, now an ortho visit takes
about half a day. Last one took 7 hours to be home again.
So I was wondering how far you have to drive to your ortho ?

I am not braced yet but am currently trying to decide between two orthos - one is on my doorstep, literally a three minute walk from my house and the treatment would be free. The other is 250 miles away, which is a five hour drive, and will cost upto £3000. Seems obvious which to choose, but the one on my doorstep seems pretty incompetent and I'm not sure how much I trust her, while the one 250 miles away is really nice, thorough and approachable....
Isn't life just like that sometimes!
But at least I would be able to stay with family while at the far away one, as my Dad lives 5 mins from the ortho's surgery... My feeling is that to go with an ortho you trust it is probably worth travelling a bit if you have to but it sounds like it would be worth keeping in mind the emergency advice that KK mentioned - it would be a bit worrying to be so far away from help if it were needed!

I'm only about 8 miles one way. I like to ride my road bike there when it works (meaning it is not hot and I don't sweat and I'm on semester or summer break and have the time).....From a ride perspective, I wish it was further away
On the other hand my surgeon for my jaw sururgery was 120 miles round trip but worth it because he was "in network" with my insurance. It totally stinks that you have to go that far but if it ends your saga with a good result it is worth it too!
