Filling dilema

#1 Post by joney »

I had a filling in my lower right molar last week. Boy was that sore, now I know the meaning of "touching a raw nerve", I leapt out of the chair. Anyway I'm fine now.

My dilema is that the dentist mentioned that she was worried about my left lower molar and she kept putting the air on it to see if I had any sensitivity but it felt fine to me. The next day it hurt me when I drank tea in the premolar in front of this tooth and this sensitivity to hot drinks continued into Saturday. I wonder if I should take this as an indication that I need to get that molar fixed (even though it might have been pre-molar brace pain). I haven't really had any brace pain up to now (only a tight feeling) so I may be suffering from ordinary toothache. I don't want to leave it until the bracket and brace are on that tooth as I'm sure this will make treating it, if necessary, more difficult.

The pain seems to have subsided now.

What to do?

Regards

I'd get it checked anyway, because if there IS a problem and you leave it, you run the risk of it getting infected. Take it from someone who knows - THAT is painful!

Agreed, get it checked. I've had a similar problem and it can be repaired.

Thanks All

The pain came back with a vengence last night when I was brushing my teeth using cold water, and again this morning when I drank my tea. I've made an appointment with the dentist on Thursday. Honestly I feel like I live at the dentist lately, extractions, filling, hygienist tomorrow and then another filling on Thursday. Hopefully this will be the end of it except for my hygienist and six monthly checks thereafter.

Oh, and I've decided to pack in the cigarettes tomorrow after I visit the hygienist. My teeth are just getting too stained too quickly with the brace on. Maybe vanity will save me after all. Patches at the ready.

Hi KK

I do actually use sensodyne, I started using it when I got my extractions as I thought my teeth could do with some TLC.

Prior to being braced I would visit the hygienist once every three months. The reason being that I am (soon to become past tense) a heavy smoker, 20 a day and I also drink a lot of tea.

My oral hygiene has improved tenfold since I've been braced. I brush 4 times a day and floss (yeah, I can floss now!), waterpick and mouthwash everything really thoroughly once a day. I may invest in an electric toothbrush to see if that helps also.

My teeth just look so yellow. Their natural colour is quite nice. My husband and kids are delighted that I have decided to pack in the cigs. Even if it was vanity that got me to this decision rather than health concerns I think it will still be good.

I must say that the whole brace experience has so far been really positive for me, I've seen a lot of movement, and felt it already. The only thing I don't like is the fact that my teeth are looking yellow. Too yellow even to post pics. However after my cleaning tomorrow I may take some pics and post them.

I hope to get that troublesome molar sorted on Thursday and then hopefully things will get better and better.

Thanks as ever for your concern and advice.

Regards
Joney :D
