Hit in the mouth...question

Hit in the mouth...question
Ok..so I have a question....was playing basketball yesterday...and got hit in the mouth with an elbow....once the initial shock of getting hit was past, I went to survey the damage....blood....which I know always looks like more than it is...so before freaking out, I rinsed with some water....and luckily it was originating from my lips....don't think any real damage to teeth...guess the braces protect them to an extent....so now the insides of my upper and lower lips are similar to how they would be after going through a shredder...many many cuts...but I've noticed on the front bottom...around one of the wounds is a "bubble"...that's the only way I can think of to describe it...it's flesh colored..with a lighter center...any ideas what that could be, if it more than likely originated from the injury... and if I should be concerned about it? I do have an adjustment this week as well...and am VERY tender from the hit
P.S. Her elbow is fine

Yeah...I was just going by my orthodontists website in regards to mouthgaurds...here's what it says...
"Playing Sports
We have not experienced any significant problems associated with any type of athletic competition. If the sport you are participating in normally uses a mouth guard, we recommend you continue to use one. If you do not normally wear a mouth guard with a particular sport (such as soccer), then it not necessary to start wearing one because you have gotten braces. Your teeth are actually very protected by the braces if you should have a contact injury."
For Martial Arts I have a mouthgaurd...though now I can't wear it becuase it was fitted long before I got braces....and my dentist doesn't want to make a new one as my teeth are shifting so much right now...I'm afraid to do one of the store bought ones, that they would mess up the brackets/wires.....and that I'd have to get a new one all the time when things change...

I wish I could say it is feeling better, but I can't....it hurts....the brackets just keep reopening the wounds....and I look like I lost a boxing match....there...now I've vented, haha....why don't they make a bandaid for inside mouths?? I didn't know you could remould the ones that you boil? I thought once they were boiled..that was it....eventually after treatment I'll have the real deal professional mouth guard made as I'm quite competitive in Martial Arts competitions.
Eventhough I wear a full-face shield when I'm playing hockey, I bought a ShockDoctor mouthguard made specially for people with braces. It has extra space along the front for the brackets, and is fairly easy to get used to... for me at least. The only drawback to it, is that it is made only for your upper arch, and doesn't protect your whole mouth.
It's a start though, I'd definately check it out if I were you. They are fairly inexpensive... I got the mouthguard and a carry case for less than $30.

This is the shockdoctor mouthgaurd that I use when I play basketball and softball. I've yet to be hit in the mouth but I'm not taking any chances.

Sorry to hear about the injury. I can totally relate.
Get the mouthguard - definitely!
I had the same experience last Wednesday night. The only difference was that instead of taking an elbow in the mouth I took a ball in the mouth. Very bloody and the inside of my lower lip looked like hamburger. Hurt like nothing I have experienced before. For 3-4 days afterwards I kept wax on 5-6 of my front brackets. I went through a lot of wax, but it helped A LOT and it is feeling much better now.
I am now working on aquiring a mouthguard. No way I am going through that again!

Since they aren't "fitted", do you find that your patients have a harder time keeping them in place? Like the way it has extra space for breathing...my first mouthgaurd for karate didn't, which made sparring a little more difficult...in the words of the Karate Kid.."IF a man can't breath, a man can't fight", haha....and do they work with a misaligned jaw?

I would suggest getting a set of the lip bumpers or braces covers from the Denta-Kit site asap. They really provide for a smooth surface over the brackets. This will give your lips a chance to heal and you don't have to go throughout the day wearing a bulky mouthguard. The mouthguard, ofcourse, is best to be worn playing ball....
