Mouthwash

I am using this Crest mouthwash and it leaves blue residue on my brackets. So my qestion is twofold: One, is there a recommended mouthwash that doesnt leave blue stuff behind. Two, is it ok to keep using this mouthwash because the blue stuff means that is where plaque is??

That Crest Pro Health is a nasty mess. I tried a sample----I keep little travel size ones in my desk drawer and it was the worst.

The blue stuff sticks to porcelain sinks too---found that out quickly.

I like biotene, Toms of Maine and Listerine Vanilla Mint.

I have been using the Crest mouthwash for over a year now and I have found that if I am using it regularly (at least once a day) I don't get much of the little blue "leftovers". When I miss a couple of days then they re-appear. The easiest way I have found to rid myself of them is to wet my toothbrush and do a quick once over (I have already brushed and flossed, before the mouthwash).

I avoid Listerine because it has alcohol and my dentist said the alcohol is hard on gums. Some folks have mentioned the store brands that are comperable to the Crest, but I can't seem to find them in my area. All the store brands around here are comperable to either Listerine or Scope.

I started using Dentyl a few weeks ago and although it does make a rather big mess of my wires and powerchain it does make my mouth feel much cleaner than it did after using Listerine. I give my teeth a quick brush after using Dentyl just to get the rest of the gunk off and my breath stays fresher for longer. The amount of blue mess in the sink is also less than it was when I started in general, which shows that it's helping my hygiene more. Shame I still get cavities far too easily despite two thorough brushings and mouthwash everyday, as well as interdental brushing a couple of times a week.

If you don't want any residue on your teeth, I thought Listerine was okay. A bit strong but it's pretty effective. Not sure if it has alcohol in it though.

I use Listerine Tartar Control which contains zinc chloride, which is supposed to reduce plaque buildup. It doesn't contain the CPC which causes the clumping but unfortunately it doesn't contain fluoride either. It's pretty "hot" tasting as Listerine contains a lot of alcohol so I do dilute it a bit before use.

I also use the Dentyl which contains both CPC AND fluoride, and I get the gunky bits with that, but I think it can be a good way of checking up on the efficacy of your brushing. The better you brush the fewer gunky bits you get.

Before I started with the Dentyl (which I only bought because it was on special offer in Boots) I was using a generic alcohol-free CPC and fluoride-containing mouthwash which was gentle on the mouth and also cheap. Anyone who lives in the UK and who has a Savers drugstore nearby can get it there. It's only 95p a bottle. Once the Dentyl is used up I'll probably go back to that.

Lisa I like the way these rinses that do this ... I use Peroxyl ... and it let's you know how good your brushing is. Makes me wonder, if those who don't like the 'bits' left hanging ... don't realise what this is showing them.

Exactly - and a quick brush over with a wet toothbrush removes those bits in seconds anyway. The only gunky bits I get are round my molar bands and all the associated springs. hooks and wires - places I would expect to be harder to brush properly anyway. I'll take any help I can get in keeping those areas thoroughly clean.

I use the green Crest Pro-Health and have never gotten the gunky bits you are all talking about. Have any of you tried the green version? (I hate "blue" minty stuff, I can only handle "green" mint!)

I've never seen Dentyl or Peroxyl and I even hunted for them when I was out today. I'd be interested in trying them but I don't know if they carry them around here.
