How long did it take your extraction gaps to close?

#1 Post by BracesAgain »

I'm getting 4 premolars removed...how long will it take these gaps to close? I'm very worried because initially, I thought they would remove the 2nd premolars which are further back, but now it looks like they are going to remove the 1st premolars which will be very visible when I speak. I'm very upset about this :(

Had braces for little over 4 months so far and about 2 of the four gaps have closed all the way, 1 of the 4 have closed 1/3 of the way and the fourth hasn't close at all yet.

I also had four extractions. My ortho did not start working on closing the gaps until 9 months into my treatment and, using springs for the top gaps and powerchains for the bottom ones, it took four months for them to close.

I had 4 bicuspids removed a month after getting braces, and springs went on the next week to close the gaps. The gaps took about 3-4 months to close.

Check out my braces diary, it details the whole ordeal. The link is in my signature.

I've just got a couple of millimetres to close on each of the four extraction gaps now.. Its been just over 9mths but as I had alot of other tweaking to be done the gaps will be dealt with last!

I had 4 premolars removed also and it took about 2-3 months to close the gaps.

I had 4 extraction gaps. One of them closed pretty early without any help from powerchains and two of the others got smaller over the first 16 months. After getting my powerchain in December, the remaining gaps are already very small. Two of them are a couple of mm now and one isn't too much bigger. I'm hoping they continue to close at the same rate so they'll be pretty much gone by my next adjustment.
