My 15 year old son had his first orthodontic appt. today for a deep bite. Even though he is a couple of years older than the ideal age for an appliance to push his lower jaw forward, the dentist believes he can benefit from this treatment now. He would first wear braces for about ten months, then get the appliance glued onto the back molars. He would be fitted again for braces. The treatment would take about three years. The dentist said that he will experience more tooth wearing over time if this isn't done, and he would be faced with lower jaw surgery as an adult. My son is mostly concerned about the change in his profile; he thinks his lower jaw will protrude too much. Do people really look that different after treatment? My
son is quite happy with how his jaw looks now, but realizes the deep bite will/is causing problems. Any thoughts? Thanks!
