second molar brackets?

#1 Post by Big H »

I'm kind of new to this whole game. Have been in braces about four months now. My question is do they ever put brackets on the second molars? I obviously don't currently have any on. I noticed that most of the pictures on this website don't have brackets or wires on the second molars. Is this the case and are we simple stuck with their current positions?
Thanks,

All my upper second molars were bracketed on day one. My lower second molars were bracketed when I had my first adjustment of my lowers, some 6 weeks later.

It all depends on what your ortho wants to achieve, and when. It's not a dead cert, however, that yours will be bracketed.

My bottom second molars were banded one month into treatment and my top second molars were banded four months into treatment. Both got their bands when I graduated to a stronger wire.

My second molars were not bracketed until about three months into treatment.

All of my molars are banded as of last week. My ortho needed the extra anchorage to close my gaps.

I have all eight molars banded and they all have hooks on them. Big ones....I was attaching elastics to some, but now I am not. I don't have headgear tubes...Thank god!!! :) I hear they hurt.

I just had them placed on my upper second molars after over a year of treatment. Reading the responses here, it seems like it can happen at any point in the course of treatment.
Uppers placed 2/8/06--Inspire ICE ceramics
Lower (stainless) placed 2/23/06
Treatment time: 17 months (estimated was 12-18 months)
Debonded: July 11th, 2007
Next appointment: June 2008 for retainer & nightguard check
