I'm also one that chews through the discomfort.

I can't bite straight into a sandwich, burger, hot dog or anything but I do cut them up and eat them that way. I cut carrots, meat and apples into small slices.

It's been a week now, since I've had braces and can pretty much chew on both sides now. Still can't bite into anything, but I keep biting down the that bite bit they gave me in my dental kit. It helps me chew and to easy the pain
