teeth are straight but my bite is off

#1 Post by brat 2 »

My teeth are straight but my bite is off. The left side of my back teeth touch, but the right side of my back teeth don't touch. Also my front teeth hit each other when I bite down. My front teeth are not supposed to touch when I bite down are they? Also the ortho is going to start slenderizing my front teeth to help close a gap in between my two front teeth. Will this affect my bite? If it does will it make it worse or better.

I just feel like my treatment is not going as well as it should be. Does anyone else have this problem? :Questions:

Have they put you in closing elastics yet?
They usually do that towards the end to close the bite.
Most people have success with it. I didn't.

Hello Brat! I really don't have answers to your questions either, but I can sympathize as I'm in sort of the same boat. My teeth are straight now, but it seems like my lower teeth are all 1/16" too far to the right. This affects my bite too (one canine too far forward, other too far back etc, causing them to 'jam' onto the bottoms). The surprising thing was he said I only had about 3-4 months left to go  ! Just tweeking left now he thinks. I certainly hope 'tweeking' means making sure the teeth are joined in harmony!! I've had slenderizing (improved things), and am now in elastics but if my teeth aren't starting to fall into place by next month I think I'll have a lot of questions! Probably is your best bet too.

Thanks for the advice, and no I am not in elastics yet. I will talk to my ortho on my next appointment. I tried to talk with him on my last visit and he didn't really clear things up for me. I will try harder next time.
