[quote="Meryaten"] Jade - don't worry about the brand of bracket - worry about finding an ortho whom you like and trust, whose treatment plan makes sense to you, whose staff you like, and whose location and office hours are convenient to you. Whatever brands of brackets (s)he recommends will be the best choice.

Very good point! I think I've been working myself up about Damon brackets as a way of feeling somewhat in control and enthusiastic about the braces instead of apprehensive and full of dread. :?

Even if the Damons ARE a bit faster, a few more months in less noticeable braces might be worth it at my age. Guess I'll hold off on coming to any conclusions 'til I've actually met with the orthodontists and weighed the various options. Thanks for your respone!

Well, I'm starting to be bummed out by this thread. I knew that my Damon 2's were sticking. And, now it sounds like this is a known problem and that the only remedy is to use Damon 3's (and the future Damon 4's). This does not give me a warm, fuzzy feeling at this time.

And, I'd still like to know some statistics on what percentage of Damon patients have a problem with sticky doors (for each different model of Damon). If the Damon 2's stick, then what confidence is there that the Damon 3's won't stick?

Betty, Damon 3's stick too.

MINE didn't, but some others on here had 3's and an occasional sticky door.

I'm sorry you have had this problem!!!

Its the orthodontists skill and integrity that count, not the type of braces. Dr. Strassner

Dr. Strassner,
I'd really like to know what percentage of patients with Damon brackets have a problem with "sticky doors". I don't think you are answering my questions. If you don't intend to answer, could you please indicate that.

I'm not sure if your last response was intended to impugn the "skill and integrity" of my orthodontist, because I have problems with my Damon doors. That's why I'd like to have some more factual information on the prevalence of this problem

We will often times have patients transfer into our practice when moving to our area and some will have Damon's (or other self-ligating appl.). When changing archwires on folks with these types of braces, it is necessary to "open the door" that holds the wire in the slot. We found that the doors were occasionally difficult to open, hence "sticky".

Call Ormco Sybron Company which makes Damon brackets for statistics on problem doors. I dont know how many problems they get reported to them.

I know that my orthodontist was far more annoyed with my Opals than he ever was with my Damons.

I wonder how many complaints Ultradent has had aobut their Opals. I didn't mind them at all...but I wasn't working with them, I was just wearing them!
