Braces a second time, risky?

#1 Post by Brooke »

I am just wondering if you do get braces again is it risky for the enamel? Is the glue and bands gonna harm the teeth? I am just wondering cause it seems like doing it twice may cause the enamel to weaken or show those white spots.

little question: when u mentionned "retainer wear for life" , does that really mean L-I-F-E  ? because on my ortho's web site it says that everybody has to go through the retention phase, with no exception, and it says that u have to wear it full time for the first 48hours, then everynight for 1 year, and then 3 nights a week for 2 years... is that enough :?: ( im 21 now and i will start a 10 months in braces really soon, do you think its fine if after 25 i just do like 1 night a week, should the bite be stabilized by that time?)
thank you!!

My ortho recommends 2 years of wearing the retainer at night only after braces. The Essix type retainers are what he uses. After 2 years it's a your choice but to keep them perfect stick with it.

My best friend got her braces off 6 months ago so she's 6 months into her 2 years but she plans to keep on going so they stay perfect.

I wonder if what is stated on his website (48 hours) is actually not an error.

My ortho says full time for 1 year, then nights only for 2 years, then after that a few nights a week.

My son wore his retainers full time for 9 months, then nights only for about 6 more months and then stopped wearing them altogether.

His teeth have all moved in the past 2 years.

He's going in at the end of the month to see what can be done... he can't afford braces again. (he's 21)
