Getting my braces on Tuesday - I'm nervous!

#1 Post by opie »

After years of close-lipped smiles and talking like a ventriloquist to avoid people seeing my crowded teeth, I have decided it is time to do something about it. I am getting the Damon braces Tuesday and am very excited to actually be straightening my teeth. I'm also a bit nervous, because I don't know what to expect. He mentioned using these little things that look like springs to bring my jaw forward. Does anyone have these, and if so, what are they like? Do they interfere with talking? Are they as uncomfortable as they look?

I hear the Damon braces work rather quickly. How long did it take you before you noticed a change in your teeth? What is your estimated duration of treatment wiht the Damon braces? Any discomfort?

Okay, I think that's enough questioning for one post! Oh, one more - how do you get the little graphic that shows how much time you have left in your braces?? Glad I found this board! I don't feel so alone now :D

Hello ! I believe the Damon and Inovation braces are quite a lot alike. Both are self-ligating, and they really do work wonders. I had the Inovation braces put on back in December, and I really like them. The first week definately takes some getting used to, but the changes happen quite quickly. I noticed a difference after a week. For the first week my cheeks and lips were a bit sore, but with the use of wax, (which will be provided), and some time, it gets so much better. I was so uptight before getting these put on. It's about 5 months later, and I'm feeling fine. I also found that this site helped me out tremendously! At first, when you have your braces put on, you will notice the archwire seems to be all over the place and out of line. But it slowly straightens out to a nice, straight line. I'm glad I went through with it. (I had actually wanted them taken off within the first hour  , but was convinced to keep them on). Believe me, if you're upset at first, it will change!

Hey Opie!

I've been in damons for almost a year now to fix crowding and an overbite. I started noticing changes within the first MONTH of treatment! My estimated time was originally 18-30 months, but it looks like its leaning more towards 18 months now :D I also had some springs (dont know if they are the same ones you are talking about) and they are a little annoying at first but you will get use to them.
Regarding discomfort, most people (including myself) have quite a bit of discomfort at the beginning of treatment but don't let it get you down! It will be gone in no time and you will be so happy to see your teeth move into place.

Good luck on your brace day!
