Just getting started

#1 Post by bracedat34 »

I just had my records appointment yesterday, getting one wisdom tooth extracted and having one exposed (they're cutting away skin around it) then going for separators on May 29th and finally getting braces on June 6th.

I'm 34 yrs old and have been putting off getting braces for a while. (couldn't really justify it financially), but now I'm getting anxious to see how my teeth look when it's all said and done.

Will keep you posted.

Has anyone else and their teeth just exposed instead of extracted? I've never heard of it and I'm getting kinda nervous...

The reason the orthodontist gave me was since I had a molar extracted years ago, the top molar is going to need a tooth to line up to. However, my wisdom tooth did start growing in my has barely broken the skin because the upper molar has prevented it from coming out any further.

This is all new to me....

Well, I'm finally back on my feet....what a painful experience. No one told me exposing the tooth would include chipping away bone. I probably would have chickened out.

I am hoping this will be the most pain I have to go through during this experience!!

Thanks to all for the words of encouragement!!

Congrats on having the courage to start treatment. I think many people here that they need other dental work prior to starting braces is a reason for them to decide against treatment. KK advocates the salt water rinses. She pushed me to try them for a good reason. They work!

Before you are braced, take pictures , and take pictures in the first two days with braces. When you get disgusted with the process (we all have those moments when things aren't exactly like we want them), look at the progress shown in those pictures. Even after a couple of weeks, they’ll give you great encouragement.

Welcome to the board.

Mike
I wore braces (this time) for 1294 days or 3 years, 6 months and 17 days.
