I have damon braces and they have little trap door rather than elastics to hold the wire in place. Brushing my teeth just now I noticed that on my lower right canine the wire is just kind of resting and visible. The wire is kind of hidden behind the doors on all my other teeth. This canine had moved a lot when I had my adjustment recently and a sizable gap had opened up but now the gap has gone. I had just assumed that with the teeth moving that gaps just come and go but now I know that the reason is that the tooth has rebelled.
Maybe the pressure was too much and the bracket broke. Not sure if anybody has had this happen to them before?
Anyhow it looks like a trip to the orthodontist is in order. I don't want anything to hold up my treatment and my next appointment isn't until July 7th. I don't want to wait until then.
I'll let everybody know how I get on but I am curious about how the wire could come free. The "door" still looks closed.
Regards
Joney

maybe it gave the door the slip, then closed it quietly ...

I know Karen, it is really strange. I've been trying to work it out and can't, very odd indeed.
I let you know what he says.

This has happened to me also. A few months ago I noticed the little trap door was open on the tooth beside the front tooth (lateral???), but the archwire was still in the bracket. The rest of the doors were shut tight. I simply pushed the archwire deep into the bracket socket, and shut the little door myself. I have no idea how long this was like this. It did not effect anything, and I too thought it was because of the pressure.

I went to the orthodontist today and the tooth was put back behind bars. the orthodontist said it was probably something I ate that disturbed the bracket so the door popped open. It only took a second or two to fix. I also got my top right wire clipped at the back as it was poking a bit so I am a happy bunny now.

I was flossing one day after my first adjustment and realized that one of my bottom 1st molars did not have the door closed and the wire was just hanging out...so at the second appointment I checked before I left and three brackets did not have the doors shut all the way! They have all been teeth that were a little out of line with the rest, so I made sure to point that out at that appointment and now we just check closely before I leave to make sure they're all secure.
