Has Anyone out there ever had Six Month Braces?

#1 Post by Teenie »

Hello
I'd like to hear from anyone who's actually had this done or if you know of someone who has.

I've been told I'm a candidate for this but I'm rather scared as i'm in my 40's and my regular dentist and others have told me that this might not be the way to go.

It just looks like a perfect way to get your teeth fixed in a short period of time. The Cosmetic dentist I saw said that he'd have to pull my first two bicuspids and one incissor from the bottom. The teeth would be aligned in 6 months and splinted together after that so I wouldn't need retainers.

Any thoughts on this???

Regarding six month braces

#2 Post by sdgal23 »

Hello, I'm new to this site...its actually pretty neat! Any who, I am actually going through the six month braces treatment. I didn't have a bad bite so my dentist said my case could be fixed with this option. Both of my canines are not fully down because of my narrow arch and my lowers are crowded. I was braced yesterday and they are not bad at all. I have minor discomfort, but its actually more pressure than discomfort. After 6 months I will have the brackets removed and will be wearing essix retainers for a year to keep my arch in the new position. I had no teeth extracted. I will keep you posted of my progress! Good Luck to you!

My very personal opinion - if something is worth doing, it is worth doing well. As a general rule, I don't think that quick and easy fixes will give the same result. Do yourself a favor and really research this. Go to several orthodontists and see what they have to say before you commit to anyone or anything. Everyone should do this before deciding to get braces. While it may seem like there would be no difference between one ortho and another, there are many many ways to approach and treat the same problem. Pulling teeth is a big deal - once they are gone they are gone and implants are expensive and don't always work. I am not saying that six month braces are not a good solution for you, just make sure what you choose will give you the best outcome. Good luck.

Gemgal had the 6 month braces or something very similar.

Her blog is here, but she hasn't posted since March so I don't know if she's finished her treatment.

Kiki Karen,

I will most definately be documenting this six month journey so I can let you all now the crazyness! lol! After wearing the essix retainers for a year 24/7, I will have to wear the same retainer or other for a couple of more years but only at night. So even though I will only be braced for 6 months...I will still have a long journey ahead of me! But having the perfect smile I've always wanted make everything I'm going through worth it!!!!
