lol! I love security guard power-trips. You know that guy was just bored and looking for trouble, haha! Instead of bugging you about your dentakit he should have been checking teenager's breath mint tins for drugs! hehe

OMG Karen, in the 5 years I've been doing this, I have never heard a story like that about my product! That is really something! I was laughing out loud reading how the security guard went from suspicion to "hey, where can I get that?"

Were you still wearing the fluffy black wig that you have in the picture in your Braces Story?

I am curious if anyone has had any problem with the DentaKit and flying. I am going to be taking an international flight from the US to Canada in August and don't plan on checking any luggage. Normally I would just throw something like this into my checked luggage and not worry about it. I have lost a lip gloss going through security so I know they can sometimes be a little picky (or bored and on a power trip).

Although there is nothing in the kit that should be a problem, I am wondering if anyone else has experienced problems such as what happened at the concert. I would rather take all the components individually in a zip lock bag than lose the entire case, which I suspect could happen if you get the wrong person.

Maybe they thought you might jump on the stage and try to brush Guns 'n' Roses teeth!

I had two lipsticks taken from me at airport security in Italy last year. My daughter thought that maybe with Italians being so style conscious that the security guard thought that those shades didn't suit me.

You should be okay as long as you have no toothpaste or mouthwash in there. I bought a bunch of Ready Brushes (and some of the cheaper kind) for airplane rides.

Prior to braces, I would just get a travel size mouthwash at o0ne of the newsstands past the security if I wanted to bring it on board.

I guess it is not so much the contents I am worried about but the fact that they are in the very handy case (which I would like to have on my holiday) and not in the required ziplock bag. Each component on their own would be acceptable as they follow the new rules. They seem to have this strange hang up about the clear plastic bag and thus the case itself is not the proper way to transport the toothpaste and possibly other items. They could technically take the whole case and contents away at security.

As mentioned before I lost a lip gloss to security that would be completely acceptable if placed into the ziplock bag prior to reaching the security check. I may just empty the contents into a bag before the flight and then place them all back into the case after I get to my destination.

The only objectionable item in the DentaKit is the travel-sized toothpaste. It is well within the ounce/size limitation, but you would probably need to put it in your plastic bag. After you get off the airplane you can put it back into your DentaKit.

Pre-pasted toothbrushes do solve the problem in-flight, if you want to be sure that your toothpaste isn't confiscated for some weird reason.

Other than that, there are no sharp objects in there that would be considered dangerous. Now if a terrorist decides to threaten somebody with dental floss, I'd be in trouble! ;-)

I want to remind everyone not to use the water that comes out of the airplane faucet to rinse their mouth. That water is NOT clean enough to put in your mouth. Please use bottled water instead, or get a cup of fresh water from the flight attendants.

I've flown internationally between the US and UK with my Dentakit, they weren't at all concerned by it in the UK - but the TSA here in the US, the guard on duty opened it up and had a poke around and asked what it was for. He was quite okay once I told him that it was for cleaning up my braces, which would be needed considering I was flying long-haul for nine hours each way!!

You should be good, just keep it with your hand luggage!

Karen

I was 16 when Appetite for Destruction came out and it has to be one of the best albums of all time.

However, given that Slash, Duff, Matt are doing an excellent job with Velvet Revolver and Izzy Stradlin has long since left the band, are G N R still that good ?

Mike

that is a great story Karen. I am glad you had a good time.

I haven't been to a GNR concert since 92

I was 13 or 14 when appetite came out, I agree a very good album.

Joney too funny about what your daughter said about the lipstick.

I am curious though as to how a lip gloss would be considered dangerous enough to confiscate at the airport....stop or I will gloss you. right.

I have braces, and a plate in my ankle I am setting off somebody's alarm. lol. I think of it as a sport..how many alarms can I set off today.
I am easily amused in case you didn't notice.

Plate in ankle

#15 Post by skyclad »

Karen,
I have a pretty scar that usually does it. I went to a hockey game and had to show a little leg when the alarm went off. I didnt have braces yet so I knew it was the ankle. Another giveaway was when the guard passed the wand over my right ankle it went nuts. Then over my left and nothing.
About 2 months after my surgery when I was kind of walking again I was in the mall and going past Forever 21 and the alarm went off without me even walking into the store. I thought this was funny. My boyfriend thought it was pretty great also.

I have not had an opportunity to go to the airport to see what drama I can cause there but I am sure that will come soon.

I am supposed to have a card that says I have a plate in my ankle but I asked the DR for it repeatedly but he never gave me one.
