1st Adjustment

#1 Post by insanemommy03 »

Well I had my first adjustment on friday...

I got new wires put on already. She said that I had some great movement in the first month, so am ready for a thicker wire. The wire that she put on is an 8 week wire. It is a lot more thicker than the first wire I had on. She wouldn't even let the assistant put it in, since I had some sensitive teeth she did the entire procedure. I just love my ortho she is the greatest!! My top teeth have moved so much in the first month it is amazing. I will have to post some pics pretty soon!!!

So now my teeth are very very sore! It is a lot of soft food for the next few days. I am stil experiencing the achy teeth all the time though. Everyday it seems like there is a different tooth that is sore!! I just keep thinking pain equals beautiful teeth!!!!

OH and I am cleaning my teeth very well too she said!!! I was excited to hear that!! I was afraid I wasn't getting them clean enough!!!!

So thats my update for now!!!!

I just had my first adjustment, and I found that a bite wafer was a godsend for the soreness. Ask your ortho, she'll have plenty of them tucked away somewhere. They're like a teething-ring for grown-ups! Whenever I felt sore, I'd just pop it my mouth and chew away, or bite gently on the edge -- veeeeeeery soothing.

Hi insanemommy03. I had my braces (upper only so far) put on the same day as you but I just had my first adjustment yesterday July 25th. My ortho is sticking with a gentle wire for now and said he is going to concentrate on my top teeth for the time being.

I decided to get a bit adventurous and go for purple ligs, I had grey on brace day. I just love the purple, a pal in work said they look like little jewels in my mouth and I tell you that's the first time ever in my life that I had any kind of a compliment about my teeth  I am just so amazed by the amount of movement I have had, they have really straightened up.

I'm going to take KK's suggestion of starting a blog and post a few photos. Hope to get that done next week after I check out how to post them.

Hello, Insanemommy,

Congratulations on good progress!

My first adjustment was today; my braces went on May 17. I enjoyed comparing my initial cast to the dramatic results already. By the 2nd adjustment, more visible changes are expected. Between the 2nd and 3rd adjustments, though, I was warned that I would see much change, because at that stage the changes would be at the roots.

Some tenderness, but not as much as when the braces first went on--unless I'm just used to the idea of initial soreness.

I ended up with wire 5.9 on top and 8 on bottom, although there was some discussion about using 6 on top. They do look humongous. Quite impressive to see the ortho and his technicians operate as a team. Very collegial.

And, of course, it was fun to see people (grownups) in braces, again, because I never see them anywhere else!
