What exactly are powerchains?

Sorry guys, probably a silly question but here it goes:

What are powerchains? What do they look like? What are they for? What are they made of? Does everyone get them? :?:

I'm not going to try and answer every use of powerchains, but in my case they were for bringing my teeth together and therefore filling in the gaps that I had. They appear to be made out of the same material as regular ligs.

Here's a pic of my lavender chains I had a couple adjustments ago:

You can see how they connect between each bracket, unlike regular ligs that just hold the wire to the bracket.

oops, and yeah, what Karen said. I read this site extensively before I got braced and still come back for information.

when I first heard of power chains, I originally thought they were made out of metal and caused a ton of force on the teeth. LOL Talk about being relieved after learning the truth
Brace date: 5/2/2007
Debanding date: 1/14/2009
Ceramic Braces: 20 months
Currently in clear Essix retainers at night
