I had my xray done and I will be taking them in to my ortho, I think I could see quite clearly that all 4 of my wisdoms have come out but are impacted. I'm so scared of extractions!
Have anybody here had impacted wisdoms and did it require surgery?
Hi! I had 4 impacted wisdom teeth also and had to go to the oral surgeon to get them removed.. the surgery is really not a big deal. They gave me anesthesia so I was asleep through the whole procedure and I really did not feel a thing. There is a little discomfort afterwards however my biggest problem was that the pain killers and antibiotics that you have to take made me drowsy and loopy. I wouldn't worry too much about it especially if they are going to give u a general anesthesia for the procedure.
I was asleep for my wisdom teeth surgery - all 4 of mine were impacted as well - one so much so that it had eaten away at 55% of my jaw bone width where it was, and the oral surgeon had warned me that when he went to break the tooth to extact it, there was a chance he'd break my jawbone as well. That didn't happen though, thank god!
I'm not sure if I was under full general anethesia or if I was just given drugs to put me to sleep, then had local (I have a feeling thats what it was). My procedure was done entirely in the oral surgeon's offce - not scary at all, looked just like a regular dentists office, but with a few more knick-knacks and tools. On the day of my surgery, I told my oral surgeon I was really nervous, and he actualy gave me light laughing gas to calm me down before he started doing anything else. It helped a lot! I really liked that I was asleep for the surgery too - even though I wouldnt have felt any pain if he would have kept me awake, I think the sensation and pressure of my teeth being cracked and pulled out would have made me flip out!
Don't worry too much about the surgery - many, many, MANY people have had their wisdom teeth out without horrible things happening. Think of how many wisdom teeth surgeries your oral surgeon must have done by now - he's an old pro, no doubt!
Unless somebody said something to you about them being impacted I wouldn't worry about it. How old are you? Typical age for exfoliation is around 18 years of age. Just realized that removal of them is quite common, even if impacted. I have seen patients eating a hamburger the night they were removed and others on liquid diets for a week. So everyone is different. But it is nothing to be too concerned about.
I'm actually currently recovering from an extraction of three impacted wisdom teeth (I only had three to begin with). Now, I handle foreign substances really well and take pain pretty well too, but my experience was that I've done things far more painful.
The surgery itself was a breeze. They knock you out and it's just like somebody flicks a switch. You're out. I woke up before they were quite done (still putting in stitches and cleaning the area), but I was numb so it didn't hurt. They made me lay down for about 15 minutes, but I was totally aware, I was just wobbly. My brother took me home. That was the worst because I hadn't yet had any ibuprofen and it's a 40 minute drive. The sockets didn't hurt at all (still numb) but my jaw was killing me. This is probably because I have issues with my jaws. I'm on my fourth full day after surgery and it really just feels like I got knocked around the face. My mouth is not really in pain, just my jaws. It feels like somebody punched me in the spots where the teeth were extracted. It's easily controlled by ibuprofen and tylenol. Swelling was worst on the third day, much better today.
It's really not a big deal. I wouldn't want to do it again, but you'll be all right. As I said before, I have done things way more painful than this--sprained ankle, stomach flu, etc. Good luck!
I've had three wisdom teeth removed by my dentist (they had erupted) and one by oral surgeon. The last one was by the oral surgeon. I chose the cheaper method of being awake but getting an anestetic because it was $200 cheaper and I was only getting one removed.
The actual surgery was pain-free...the pain started within a few hours of getting home and stayed that way for over a week. Definitely follow the after-care instructions and get the prescription they give you filled. I went home afterwards and took an OTC. but with in three hours, I was on my way to the pharmacy to get the prescription filled.
