Getting used to braces (kissing)

#1 Post by Bellita »

Hi everyone! I will soon be getting braces and I was wondering about how long it takes you to start kissing again. I am in a fairly new relationship,(4 months) and kissing is something we enjoy very much :D. How long did it take you guys to get comfortable? any advice?

Umm...It took me a while, as my teeth was just uncomfortable for a while...Just be gentle and watch the tongue. Try it and see how you get on.

I got my braces on bout 2 months ago... the first thing I did when my BF got home from work was go to see how it felt. He was surprised when he realized he didnt feel any different. To be quite honest it wasnt all that different. You'll be fine!

Hi Bellita,

I started right away (the night I got braced). My boyfriend hasn't noticed a difference at all and it's not uncomfortable for me in the least.

I thought braces would be a pain with this type of subject. I found it to be quite the opposite. I didn't find kissing weird at all. This is one area where braces hasn't hindered anything. Believe it or not, my braces attracted more people.

Thanks for everyone who replied. I just got my braces yesterday and my boyfriend wants to see me today but i think i rather wait a few more days so that I get used to my braces.

To my surprise I really havent experienced much pain at all. I have read how many people use a lot of wax, but I havent had the need to use it at all yet.

I guess its a good thing that I am trasitioning so smoothly but I kind of want to feel some pain or soreness because that is like a sign of movement.

Oh well we will see.

When I was in braces 30 years ago, and I was 14 (WAY too young to be kissing) I had a boyfriend that I LOVED I thought and we kissed every chance that we could. Didn't bother me a bit! We shall see now if I get braces how that goes with my husband. Interesting.... I would say the best way to test the water is to jump in. Just be gentle.... Lori
