Closing wire question

#1 Post by neelie »

Almost at the 10 month point. Yesterday at my appointment the ortho assistant activated my closing wire on the bottom right and both sides on top. That got my attention and even drinking water seems to hurt my teeth today. My question is what exactly did she do? She didn't cut the wire? Just pull and twist around the molar band? I had the "closing wire" in for five weeks but it hadn't been activated. Does anyone know if this same wire can be "activated over and over again?

The wire does have four loops. Two on top and two on the bottom. Since June 25 the gap from extration on bottom right is closed and top right almost closed. Still work to do on top left. In June these wires were put in but weren't "activated". On Tuesday he used the term "activate" these wires and that is when the assistant "twisted or turned something and pulled everything so tight I saw a few stars! The only thing I can imagine she did was pull the wire thru the tube on the molar band and ?twist it? I know she didn't cut any of the wire off that I saw. I'm just VERY curious. I questioned her about it but she didn't really answer.
I have several of the dreaded black triangles. Once the ortho mentioned post brace gum surgery. Now he talks about bonding between several front teeth. Needless to say I am not very happy that once braces are off (still months away) my smile still won't be something to smile about !

Thanks Maryaten. My loops do look like the ones in the picture you posted. I hate to be obsessing but I still wonder what exactly did the assistant do to (activate) or open the loops. I know her tool didn't touch the loops themselves. Did she pull the wire through the molar band and then twist it?
