question about brace / profile

#1 Post by steph3n »

hey i've been wondering alot if i should get braces or not lately and theres one question that's been bugging me:

when you get braces, can it actually change your face a little bit? by that i mean while your teeth are getting aligned, could it possibly make your chin more visible or define your jawline more?

or my two upper front teeth stick out a tiny bit, which makes my upper lip seem kind of thick (sticks out because of the 2 teeth i believe)...could braces fix that?

basically, can it change your profile, jawline and chin a little bit?

i like my teeth but i hate my profile/ non existant chin and jawline...i know braces wont make it change drastically but can it make a little difference?

Thanks in advance

thanks

also, when your natural expression leaves your mouth a little bit open, is that normal or is that a sign you need braces or something to fix that up?

when relaxed or sleeping, my mouth is slightly open as my lips arent touching eachother...is that normal?

Hi Steph

I have a similar lower jaw/chin problem. It makes it look as though my upper teeth stick out when realy the problem lies with my lowers being too far back and the chin not being far enough forward.

Unfortunately (as already mentioned) this is unable to be fixed without some kind of jaw surgery. However, my ortho is working on bring in the upper teeth slightly, and reducing the promience which will improve my profile but not ompletely correct the problem.

I'm sure that even if the problem can not be completely fixed, improvements can still be made with braces and its definately something worth considering.

Your bite will also be corrected, which might help with the open mouth thing, a question for your ortho I think!!

Since my smile is becoming more narrow, my wide chubby bunny cheeks have become more defined and I like not having to run around with bronzer and highliter trying play up my cheekbones....I highly doubt it's to losing any weight because I've been making up for my soft foods diet by adding extra butter.

My lower jaw has changed allot !!1

I had/have class 2 bite which was dental not skel. Which caused me to sit my lower jaw back all these years (Top lateral was behind central and canine which made my lower teeth sit behind upper teeth caused they couldn't move forward due to lateral blocking them ). Now that my deep/overbite is being corrected by opening anterior teeth and bringing Lateral in place I now have room for my lower jaw to slide forward in it's normal position the way it was supposed to be.

My jaw muscles are learning a new way to position themselves the way they were supposed to be .

Now my jaw is longer from side view and from front view.I actually like my old jawline which was nice and square in a nice way.My new jawline isn't long, long... but there's is a diffrence for sure.

So yes your jawline can change if it's due to dental .It's not really the jaw bone but the new position of jaw that show's the change.

Try this...look in mirror front and side and open and close your jaw just a tad and you will see the difference.I would say my lower jaw has opened almost a 1/4 of a inch.

Now to bring my molars down some !

I don't know if anyone else has experienced this but I've noticed that I now have slight dimples!! Only really noticeable whenever I smile but you know what, I'm kind of liking my new look. I've always thought dimples were cute and now like a miracle, I have them now. I'm not sure if this is due to braces or the extractions of the 4 first-bicuspids, but whatever it was, I ain't complaining!! :D
