I see I am in good company. I don't consider myself an old fogey (actually, i see i spelled it 'foggie', which is probably a more appropriate word)- I just said that because I have 3 daughters that act like I am. I actually feel half my age, and I do believe the braces seem to help cut some of the years off my looks. I'm sure many of you feel the same way about yours :). I sure get lots of grins from the younger crowd with braces.
I go tomorrow to have another adjustment and I hope to learn more about what type braces I have. I never cared to know until I started reading the messages on this board.
Happy New Year of picking food particles out of your teeth and braces, and poking wires.

Just read an article saying that 60 is the new 30. I think it might be true.

My mom is 64 and she is very fit and not a fogey either. Now when I look at photos of my grandparents when they were in their sixties, they look much older --- not sure why. My mom isn't "trendy" by any means but she is very full of life and vigor.

In any case, whatever age you are, its better than pushing up daisies. :)

looking for stories

#22 Post by candacetaylor54 »

Hello everyone-- I'm really enjoying reading all of your stories. Some of you have already heard from me individually, but I'm a freelance writer and journalism student working on a story about adults with braces. In particular, I'm interested in speaking to people who are 50 and above. I'm looking for as many different viewpoints as possible about life as an adult with braces. If you'd be interested in sharing your story, please contact me at candacetaylor54@ hotmail.com.

Thanks, and I'm looking forward to hearing from you!
Best,
Candace Taylor

I was 18 the first time I had braces. I am now 45 and will be 46 on 8/27. Do not mind telling my age. I wonder if they have some type of Hat group for us men at age 50 (lol).

Hey Chris
At 44, i'm really needing a hat these days. Not much else up there to protect the roof if you know what I mean. I'm thinking a hat clubs a good idea, but purple is definatly out of the question.
Maybe some type of golf hat. We had some courses open yesturday, now ive got the itch to go hit. Of course it's now snowing here in Utah, Oh well.

I wish someone could give advice. I was told 6-9 months, but I already at month 15!!! Teeth are very unlevel- one side goes up, and the other down. This wasn't noticed until about month 10. I am so discouraged, because I am now noticing that my chin is more off center now than it ever was before. The dr. is now talking about putting in an anchor in the bone on one side to pull up the side that droops down. Has anyone else had this done? This has been a difficult case for my dr., and I have lost confidence in him. I am not sure he knows what he should be doing any longer- like taking a stab in the dark. This is his first practice. I want to first see my dentist who referred me to him, and ask her if maybe a second opinion isn't warranted.
Thanks for listening. Heading toward 18 months when I was told 9 has really been a let down.

doll,I'm thinking you should start an entirely new thread with your post. I can't offer advice but I'll bet some other people can, but may not see your post because it's in a thread with an unrelated subject line. Best of luck to you and I hope someone pulls through with some words of wisdom !

Ah, the dreaded treatment estimates....

I believe Clo is having this procedure done, doll. In fact, I think he was going to get the bone anchors placed today.
