I'm getting braces!!! HELP! I need advice!

#1 Post by jannobandano »

hello!!!
i'm gettting braces soon, however, i have been pondering over the same question for MONTHS and MONTHS, so was wondering if any of you guys (you guys seem like experts :D lol) could answer it.
I am currently wondering whether to do damon 3 or damon 3mx
i've heard that damon 3 has better aesthetic appearance, because it is half ceramic, but damon 3mx bonds better to your teeth.
has anyone here had damon 3 braces not have them debond?
do they look ok? does anyone have damon 3mx on their top row so i can see them clearly?
thanks heaps to everyone who replies- its greatly appreciated!!!! :)

P.S. how do you show when you get your braces on or next appointment etc.?

I didn't get this kind of choice and used whatever brackets my ortho was comfortable with (whatever "brand" they are, they're not self ligating anyway). Remember, brackets don't move teeth, the wire and your ortho do! That said, I'm sure there are some members who are willing to share some photos of ther damons to help you out. I just wouldn't be too worried about how one damon "looks" over the other, no one but you will be able to tell the difference anyway!

I've had Damon 3's on my upper arch since my treatment started a month and a half ago, and the only debonding issue I've had was on one of my premolars (the bracket came off twice now) but I believe it must have more to do with my tooth than the bracket as none of the others have been a problem. As SnowSara said I too didn't have a choice as to what brackets would be used, but was told by my ortho that he wanted to use these brackets. I'm quite happy to go along with what ever decision my ortho makes as he is the expert on the subject and I'd prefer him to use what he's most comfortable with. Bear in mind braces are only a passing phase of your life, you only have to deal with them for a relatively short period of time. Also don't worry too much about how things look, no matter how well disguised or obvious some brackets are some will notice them and others will not. In my opinion comfort should feature much higher on the list of priorities if you're given a choice.
P.S. Don't worry about how braces make you look, they're there for a much more important job than aesthetics. In my job I have to deal with government officials and other important people in big meetings often addressing a fair number of people at a time, and not one of them has so much as mentioned my braces (so either no one noticed or they just don't see it as a big deal)yet.

I have Damon 3's and I haven't had a problem at all. Mind you I've only had them for two weeks but I asked my ortho and he said usually you'll know pretty quick if you're going to have a problem with debonding.

I was told by my orthodontist that the damon braces with 1/2 clear bracket have been taken off the market because of breakage and too many needing replacements. I still see these on the damon website, but she assures me that they are not a good choice. They sure do look better though! I hope she knows what she is talking about, in addition to being an orthodontist, she teaches dentistry/ortho at a medical college.

Ive had Damon 3's for a year and a half and not had any of the brackets debond. I'm amazed how robust they are given I dont eat much differently to how I did before.

As for the visual impact, not a lot of difference between the full metal and the half metal. People will notice (and not give a damn) anyway. Go for comfort and speed - if you think one will be quicker than another.

Good luck
