GG GOT BRACED
hi all,i got my braces in yesterday at 8pm! it really wasnt a lot to worry about took an hour to get it done.felt really wierd afterwards but no pain as yet thankfully.there is a tiny bit of an elastic sticking into my top lip driving me bonkers so just waiting for dental surgery to open so i can pop in to get it snipped.my mouth feels like its huge and am afraid to smile in case i frighten anyone but its just a ceramic brace on top with very light wire going through so it isnt that awful after all. Just a quick question as im here-will this wire be changed as time goes on?
In my first adjustments they had a new wire already waiting for me on the table. Assistant just put the new wire, and after that the ortho had a quick look. Well, in my second previous visit the assistant could not put the new wire, which was waiting for me, because my teeth were too crooked for it. Ortho hads a look and send me home with new ligs, no new wire. Some ortho's change archwires often and others (like mine) only do it when necessary and don't do the 'work up' from wire to wire

I get new wires when the ones in my mouth are done doing their business. So I got new wires on my lowers after 2 months and then after another month or so then back to another wire the next month then a new one after 2 months. Uppers I've only had 3 wires. First the thickness was changed, then the material of the wire was changed, and the one I have right now seemed to make my arch feel smaller. Maybe because I have a huge tongue, or it's all in my crazy little head!
Upper and lower 1st premolars extracted
Uppers braced 4/6/07 & Lowers braced 4/20/07
ceramic brackets and rectangular arch wires
Est. term: 30-36 months
De-banded: 3/04/09 w/ LBR and U&L Essix

Hi Meryaten.I was over to the dental surgery first thing yesterday morning and he snipped it for me. Im sure i came across as such a cry baby moaning over a piece of elastic but it scratched all the inside of my lip in just a few hours. He is very understaning and just 2mins from my office so wil plague him for the next 2 years im sure!!though i hope to have the brackets off in 18 months. will just have to wait and see i guess.
Im lucky aswell to have a lovely ortho and his staff couldnt be more helpful. Its costing me €4,500 so considerate staff make it less painful to pay out that much money. Will be worth every cent im sure. Going for few drinks this weekend so better keep topped up on the water aswell as i dont want to wake the next morning with my lips stuck to the brackets!!

GG, if it hurts, then it hurts. I can personally tolerate the rubbing of elastics, but the slightest "poke" from the end of an archwire practically has me in tears.
Don't ever feel bad about asking your ortho to deal with something which is bugging you. They are used to people coming in for "comfort visits".
