I FEEL LIKE RIPPING OUT MY TEETH!!!!!
OMG!!!! My teeth are driving me nuts!!! I woke up during the night and the aching is about to drive me mad. I have problems with ibuprofen hurting my stomach so I can only take it with food. And at 3:00 am I wasn't going to come downstairs to eat. Oh my goodness, how long with these be this irritating? It's not excruiating pain, it's just reallllly annoying. Lori
It will pass soon!!! What day are you on?
My experince- when they were first on it was fine, I thought- this is easy! But that night I couldn't sleep I ached so badly. Then day 2 and 3 I simply couldn't eat, chew. They ached.
By day 4-5 it eased up. then I got more used to them. Then every day I have been eating more and more and now chewing is easier.
the metal bands still annoy me.
what exactly is bothering you? It gets better!!!!!!!!
For me a lot of it is mindset. Sometimes it is so hard and annoying and I simply remind myself that here is one opportunity to really cultivate strength in my mind. Cause it is only when I stop thinking about it that it lightens up.
HAng in there!

I really really reallythought it would never pass!!
I found the pain so distracting and so unusual! I can't take IP even with food because my tummy is so sensitive so I take strong paracetamol! It will get better with a few days( mine took 2-3 to start feeling better) but chewing takes a little longer! I totally fine now ! Well that is until next fri and my first adjustment!! Hang in there and think of the end result!! Maybe get another pain killer for when you don't eat!!

Weirdest thing is to get your teeth better you need to use them. CHEW, CHEW and CHEW some more! Yes it hurts to start with but in a day or so the pain will leave you.
Good luck!
Mike
Good luck!

Agreed.CHEW, CHEW and CHEW some more!
I found that the more I chewed, the less it hurt the next time I chewed.

Did you just get braced? My whole mouth hurt for 4 days after getting braced - I learned how to time my OTC meds so I didn't have a lot of pain before the next dose kicked in. On day 5 I only needed medication before eating, and I haven't needed any since then.
Hope it gets better for you soon.
Thank you for your responses! I am only on day one here, 24 hours since I had braces put on. I know that the pain will pass but sheesh, what a pain the a$$! It is extremely annoying and as one person mentioned very distracting! The kids in the classroom have been very supportive and like the looks of my braces!! LOL, you gotta love em! For those that asked about my treatment time, he's saying 12-18 months. I hope it's more like 12
I have been trying to take Tylenol then Ibuprofen. I have to watch cause Ibuprofen KILLS my stomach and I would rather have mouth pain than for my tummy to hurt so much. thanks for listening! Lori

I'm on my 8th day and really, the worst day was day 2. After that it just got better and better. I think the spacers they have between my molars bother me more than anything right now. But they will be replaced by bands next week - so I'm hoping that will be an improvment also.
Hang in there! It will pass!

Gum is helpful, but if you're in a classroom in a school you are probably not aloud to chew gum. We're not at my school, not even teachers.
Had to do my chewing at home.
Anyway...
Tylenol will help as much as ibuproben for ya while you wait for this stage to pass. Ibuprofen always gives me an ulcer that takes time and other medication to cure so I try not to use it EVER. I used Tylenol with good success. In fact, my ortho recommended Tylenol over IB for a number of reasons.
3rd day was the worst for me for the pain. After that it was a day at a time and I was in good shape in a week or two. Chewing was still a little uncomfortable for about a month, but the Tylenol really helped.
Keep up the good work! Your teeth are moving!!!!!

Yup I love gum
Any yeah I have had that want to rip my teeth out of my mouth feeling too, lol. It was after they first put rubber bands connecting a single tooth on the bottom to a single one on the top... that one hurt so bad it woke me up from sleep. That was the worst everything else has been okay.
