What's the Weirdest Thing You've Had Stuck in Your Braces?
Besides getting my toothbrush stuck in my braces at work last week, I have also gotten my comforter thread and a wash cloth stuck in my braces... I had to get BOTH cut free! OH and last winter while drive in rush hour traffic, I pulled my glove off with my teeth to answer my cell phone and you guess it! I had to drive a mile to the next exit with a glove hanging from my teeth. I was too angry to see if anyone was laughing at me....LOL So I just ended my call and punched it to 80mph!

Oh no....not cat hair. I have two cats at home and there's enough of the stuff floating around as it is. It's a good laugh reading about all thing possible things that may get caught in braces, something I'm yet to experience but thanks to all for the information. I will definitely close my mouth when putting on clothes

My tongue........I somehow managed to catch my tongue in one of the brackets. A piece of fleshy part of the tongue got caught between the bracket and the wire and I coudnt get it free for about a minute - it seemed a very long minute as I was in a meeting at work and I was beginning to think Id be stuck like that.

Hi Bracedagain
What exactly is a tongue thrust crib? I read up about tongue thrusting and, of course now am convinced that I am a thruster. My tongue certainly doesn't sit in the roof of my mouth and it always pokes out between my teeth when I smile. I'm also more aware of it flapping about now I'm braced. I know there are other symptoms and as yet my ortho hasn't mentioned anything so I could be wrong. Nonetheless I'm curious...

Cosmic, it can also be called a habit crib, habit appliance, tongue habit retrainer etc. They come in a few different shapes and designs, some removable and some cemented into place, but they all serve the purpose of reminding the wearer that they are pushing their tongue forward between their teeth. Some have a kind of bar thing to stop the wearer from doing that, and other more savage ones have spikes which will be a somewhat more painful deterrent.
I read somewhere (can't remember where) that you can tell if you are a tongue thruster or not by looking in a mirror while swallowing a mouthful of food or water. If your chin crinkles up or you purse your lips then chances are you are putting your tongue in between your teeth instead of up to the palate.
Tongue thrusting is a left-over infantile swallowing mechanism. Babies swallow this way because they tongue thrust in order to form a vacuum to suck from a nipple or bottle. Usually kids stop doing it by the time they're about 6 or so, but sometimes it persists into adulthood and it's a hard habit to break.

OK.....!!!!!!Get ready to laugh..........in my early 20's when I had braced the last time........I was blowing up balloons for my buddy's birthday party, and holy schlitz malt liquor........one got stuck to 3 of my front top brackets. I got pics of it too! I had to wait 2 days to get to the ortho and get it all pulled out. It was a yellow ballon, i had gold brackets, and how frickin' funny is that. I'm laughing now......
Stick a fork In me.......I'm Done!
My cheek! Owww! It hurt a lot! I went to bed and the next morning it was caught in a part of my braces... near the back. I don't know where but it was on my right side. I couldn't open my mouth either. I puffed up my cheek like a balloon to get it out. It gave me a little cut too. It was stuck like that for a least 5 minutes. This was a few weeks ago.
I'd imagine the tongue would hurt too!
Wonder what other crazy things have gotten caught in folks braces... hmmm.
