Lost Buccal Tube :-(

#1 Post by Cleobabe »

Hi guys! I was hoping that it wouldn't happen to me but it's just one of those things I guess.
Last night sometime my buccal tube that was on my 2nd molar got knocked off or something. I'm not entirely sure how it happened as I didn't feel it come off and I don't remember swallowing it or anything...pretty strange. I only noticed it this morning and I was like DAMN! :?
Here's my question....My 2nd adjustment is on thursday morning so should I just wait til then to tell my ortho? Or should I give them a call and let them know that it happened? I'd have to wait til Tuesday anyway to call as they don't open til then so i'm thinking 2 days probably won't matter.

Oh I've had two fall off and one swallowed. No harm done, but they were sure to remind me that if anything else were to break off, to give them a call to inform them and let them make the decision of coming in sooner than my next appointment.

Yep, give them a call and see what they say. It's no big deal. I had a couple come off in the first couple of months.

I'd say give them a call so that they know about it before hand. My ortho wants me to notify them if anything becomes lose or breaks right away. This is for many reasons, some of which are: a) decide if the repair needs to be done sooner; b) so they can lengthen your appointment (a regular adjustment takes about minutes whereas with a broken buccal tube or bracket takes about 30 minutes); c) so they can get the supplies the need out for you (new buccal tube, bonding material, etc.)

Good luck! :D
