Did they say if your bite can get worse in the future?
I had some treatment for overjet/overbite when I was a kid. Although i had some discomfort already then I quitted the treatment, because my teeth looked ok.
About 15 years later I started to develop annoying pains on my face. My front lower teeth from canive to canine were worn, and would have continued to wear ever more, if I would have not started the treatment.

I was given a surgery possibility or just go for braces. I chose braces, and I am happy with the outcome so far.

I would think that a private orthodontist would be happy to get a new customer, so therefore he may not have mentioned that your teeth/bite is ok and functional like the dental school orthos did.

They stated my bite will most likely be fine in the future if not action is taken. The dental school seemed like they actually wanted to do what is best. While the private orthodontist seemed like he wanted a new customer. I am still thinking about treatment. It is a tough decision. The orthodontists at the dental school stated if you saw 50 orthodontist, 48 would tell you the treatment options that they recommended and the private orthodontist recommended.

Wow your bite looks very similar to mine (except my lower front teeth are a bit more crowded) But I have what the ortho called a crossbite and Class III bite I believe. I do have direct edge to edge contact.

I asked him about extractions and he said maybe or maybe not. He said if I wanted the ideal bite that he may be able to do something like shaving or... he used another word but I can't remember what he called it. I guess you take off part of the teeth on the sides so that way they can fit together to give you a little added space. Has anyone heard of this option or is my ortho blowing smoke...?

Great pics NYG, I too wish mine looked that good. But I've started the process to get there and also fix my bite.

Karen, question about the IPR. Is that only done on front teeth? Can the ortho do it on the back teeth instead so I dont loose to much proportion on my lowers.
My uppers aren't super skinny and I dont want the lowers to look much more narrow than they are.

I added two more pictures from the side. As you can see not all is perfect when looking at the side view. The pictures here are the actual pictures from my first consultation. I am going on a third consultation and I make an appointment for a fourth. I want to make sure that I am comfortable with what ever decision I make. Thanks for everyone's advice.

I went to my third and believe my final consultation. The ortho was very nice and said that he would only go with the surgical approach if I would go through with it. He doesn't believe that it is necessary to go through with it because my teeth are pretty straight and my bite doesn't cause me any problems. I want to thank all of you for your suggestions, etc. I decided not to go through with treatment at this time.
