Upper braces are off. But i'm not excited.

#1 Post by ghostmyimag3 »

I had the upper braces removed today and i'm really self concious about the enormous effect that my teeth seem to reflect. I feel as if i have horse teeth!
I'm almost embarassed to smile right now because of a tiny gap i have that was spaced so one tooth could be bonded to match the size of the other tooth on the opposite side. Maybe this is normal, to be a little self concious over the largeness i dont know.
The lowers remain because i was unhappy with two of the teeth in the front. Currently i have rubber wedges aiding in turning the teeth into the right position. We'll see what happens.

I am getting clear retainers. He told me i'd be able to bleach my teeth with these types of retainers. I know he said something about 15% bleach or something. Too much information being spout out today. I pick up my retainer for my uppers tomorrow and he said all that would be explained then.

The whole process of them being removed was easy. The worst part was getting the glue off my molars where the molar bands had been. What had not been ground off was scraped off, wasn't too bad but there was one instance where i thought my molar was coming out!!!!

Congratulations!

I know you're not too excited right now, but just think about how much easier it's going to be when you eat! You don't have to worry about food sticking anymore - doesn't that excite you just a little?

Anyway, I'm still fully braced (and will be for some time), but I imagine, you're going to have to adjust to the new you. It takes some people a while to adjust once they become braced, so I guess it's only normal to have to adjust after they come off.

Did your teeth seem big before you got braced? If not, then it's probably that your eyes haven't adjusted to the new you either. Braces don't make your teeth larger, so here's hoping that it's just that your eyes need to adjust.

Hopefully, others who have gone through debracing will comment soon and can offer some reassurance.

Congratulations Ghost, I think you probably just need to adjust to seeing your teeth normally. I think braces make teeth look smaller. You'll probably feel better when you get your bonding done and once you get used to looking at your new smile. Anyway even if your teeth are big, big is good, think of all the Hollywood stars with a big smile.

I have my retainer on my uppers now. So finally my teeth feel secure again and they moved somewhat over the past 24 hours. At least the fronts did. I couldn't hardly get the retainer on much less off but they say it gets easier after two weeks.
I think you guys are right, maybe once the bonding of that one tooth is done i will feel more confident, right now i feel that everyone notices even though i know they really dont until i point it out. But i point it out because i know its there.

The retainer is a essix but i can also bleach my teeth in it right now as well. I have to bleach my teeth for one week while i sleep with this whitening kit they gave me and go back in a week for a checkup. Hopefully the lowers will come off next month, the two teeth i have trying to turn have done so since he stripped in between trying to make some room. I'm really hoping to see results in the weeks to come. Results that i want !! I am starting to get used to the way my teeth are and they dont look so big now like they did yesterday.
