Brace pain

#2 Post by maryrn »

For myself the pain did not last long - few days at most. I used some Advil and it helped for me. I have been very lucky and have not experienced severe pain at all. My worst time was when I had the spacers between my back teeth before I actually got braced. Even eating pudding hurt with the spacers. After I got the braces on it was a piece of cake with the spacers gone. I've had my braces on now for 18 months and they rarely hurt at all. Hang in there - it gets better.

where's the pain?

If its behind your rear molars because a wire is sticking into your gums, call your ortho and have it trimmed.

If its your teeth, exercise them. I know it sounds wrong but the use will help get blood circulation up and will make the pain go away. Some orthos actually give their patients a bite wafer which is a thin rubber with the intent that it will help increase blood circulation and decrease the pain.

Hi Ryan,
I feel your pain!! I've had my braces on for nearly two weeks now and the first four days were awful! After a week I was off the pain medication and now I can bite and chew most things, so you should only expect it to last a week at most I think, with some minimal tenderness after that.
Hang in there! I was wondering what I had done my first few days, but it does get better

yeah, its actually my teeth that are hurting.
The pain does seem to become more severe as the days go on.

It pain is as though every tooth is loose, and it is the pain assosciated with a loose tooth

For me the first 2 days weren't that bad. Then eating became almost unbearable for a couple of days. On the 5th day it magically subsided. Yes, it feels like all your teeth are loose. One day I took 8 Advil and it hardly touched the pain although the pain of my torn up cheeks ran together with my very sore teeth. If it feels like you just want to rip all your teeth out it is normal. Hang in there!!!! :D

Yea. It hurts! I got mine on Wednesday night and it did not hurt- just pressure. On Thursday and Friday my teeth were in great pain! Friday night was the worst and again on Saturday morning. By Saturday night they felt much better.

Today, Sunday my teeth feel sooo much better! I was actuatally able to chew a peice of (soft) chicken. Hopefully by midweek they'll be back to normal. Hang in there, Ryan.

It's not abnormal for you to be this sore at first. I was sore for about a week and then the pain just went away. I'm on day 11 and I eat anything I want (I've had so much chips and salsa these last few days and I was fine).

I do still have one tooth on one side and one on the other that are a little tender but I've perfected chewing to not even bother those very much. They feel kinda loose but I'm sure it's because they're on the move!!

It does get better believe me. If in 10-15 day's your pain has not gotten any better or has gotten worse I'd call the ortho. Your teeth are probably just moving in places they've never moved before :D :D :D And that's a good thing!!

In regard to the cold washcloth, this may be the perfect advice for most new braces wearers. Personally, once I was braced I immediately developed sensitivity to cold and heat. I now avoid extreme temperatures in food and beverages. Am I the only one who's experience this? :?:

Berries--

I experienced that as well. To this day I am apprehensive about putting ice in my drinks!
