Wedding

#1 Post by GG »

Hi all, i got engaged last month and want to start planning my wedding straight away. i would love to get married next year but only have my brace on since 23rd October '07. My ortho said it would def take 12 months so im aiming for 18 months. i would be over the moon if i was rid of the lot in 18 months i really would. he has said to me that once the teeth are straight he wont remove the brace immediately as they would all go back to the way they were. There have been some major improvements since October except for one awkward tooth that will have to be manouvered into shape.I would like to know how long others spent in braces please? thanks for all the advice and support by the way. this is a great site

i still have them on, but did u consider retainers will just be like braces (unless they are removable??) and will still have metal present in your mouth!

But good luck and congrats!

Hi! Congrats on your engagement! I am getting braces on Wed, and am getting Married in March of 2009 and will definatly have them on then! I will have ceramics, but what my Orthodontist said he is going to do is remove the wire and you won't be able to see them. He also said he would remove them if I need any pictures done before the wedding. I am sure this will only help if you have clear ceramic braces. But congrats!!!!!

Congratulations on your engagement!!

My friend works at an orthodontist office, and she told me that they will tailor treatments for clients who need them off by a certain date. If your braces treatment is relatively close to being finished, I'm sure your ortho might work with you to get things done more quickly. However, if you're still far from the end at that point, this may not be an option.

A woman I work with had braces for 2 years (difficult case) and was still not finished in June, with her wedding early August. She spoke with the orthodontist, and although it cost lots of extra money, the braces were removed and she finished the remainder of her treatment in invisilign.

FYI - you don't HAVE to have metal retainers! I am a marketing professional and do not want to wear metal retainers after the braces... my ortho is giving me a metal wire retainer to wear at night, and a set of invisilign trays to wear during the day (not to move teeth just to keep them in place)

My advice is to talk to the ortho and have a plan of action. You're the client, he/she should be able to work with you.
