HELP...Just got my braces!!
Do you pro's have any tips for me. My mouth is hurting...I find it so hard to eat. Please give me some advice.
Congrats on getting your braces....
Eat soft foods mashed potatos, jello, pudding, any thing that you dont have to chew.
take some pain meds to help with the discomfort.
Wax for the spots that are really bugging the inside of your checks.
The discomfort wont last long. It was about 6 days for me. But part of that was because I have a filling on the back side of my front tooth.
I hope this helps ya out some.

Hey, congrats to you on getting braced!
As a person who has had plenty of experience in braces the first thing I will tell you is that soon enough you'll almost forget they're there!
A few tips that I have learned throughout my having braces:
1) The first few days it will be hard to eat. Bananas, yogurt, ice cream/pudding, canned fruits, frozen green beans, mac and cheese, juices, cottage cheese, and of course soup are all great. Others--sorbet, oatmeal, applesauce, etc. In addition, be sure to drink plenty of water 24/7 as that will help tremendously.
2) Make sure to use wax when needed. I forgot to add that if your mouth gets a lot of canker sores, etc. be VERY careful to avoid acidic foods, and others that may cause sensitivity! (Sorta funny but this most recent time in braces even after having had them put on twice before, I managed to eat a lemon bar--which was one of my favorites...not so much anymore after the pain from it+ the sores.....)
3) Keep pain meds handy. Also, make sure to have plenty of oragel, or something comparable on hand for any sores.
4) If having speech issues at first, when driving alone, put on music, and sing along. That helps a lot!
5) Remember we're all here for ya!
6) If you have any more specific questions, don't hesitate to ask me!
Good luck to ya!!

I'm on day 9 and I dont really hurt anymore, unless I try and overdo the chewing. Sometimes I think and can chew through something and am reminded that I'm not ready.
You have to be creative in the foods you eat otherwise you'll go nuts. You can eat almost anything that is soft if you cut it up or blend it enough.
Here are some things I've been eating the last 9 days.
Egg salad
Soft spaghetti (sauce is blended noddles cut up small)
Jello pudding cups.
Ice cream
Spaghetti-os
Chicken noodle soup.
Refried beans
canned green beans (mash them with a fork)
yogurt
slim fast shakes
soft donuts
cottage cheese
macaroni and cheese
soft biscuits/bread (they kind of melt in your mouth)
fish (not the breaded crispy kind)
creamed corn
milk chocolate (dont chew, let it melt)
yesterday I ordered a burrito from a place that I know makes them really soft an mushy (del taco) it didn't have any meat but it had guacamole, sour cream, lettuce (got soft when i microwaved it), cheese, refried beans and rice. I used a knife and for and cut it into little half inch squares so I didn't have to chew it.
Last night I ate tortellini w/ cream sauce. That involved a bit of chewing but it was very gentle and slow.
Don't loose heart, be creative, it'll be over very quick.

My teeth hurt for the first 1 1/2 to 2 weeks and it was hard to eat anything. I took painkillers, used lots of wax, and tried to drink lots of water. I also felt like my bite was off and I couldn't chew properly.
At first I ate mostly yogurt, cottage cheese, smoothies, chili, rice, and bean, cheese, and rice burritos and egg salad sandwiches cut up with a knife and fork. For snacks I had mini powdered donuts, jello cups, pudding, ice cream, and icees/slurpees.
Hang in there. It won't last too long!

Warm water!
I got braced just over 24 hours ago. I was expecting big pain but I'm drinking loads of water and have placed wax on any areas I think may cause a problem and...so far...so good.
I have had a little feeling almost like teething and to soothe that I've been drinking a cup of boiling water with just a little cold water added...hotter than tepid but cooler than boiling It definitely helps. It helped when I had the gum grafting done last year as well.
I tried chewing sugarfree, non stick chewing gum today but that was a little ambitious (until I got it soft and then it was semi-ok).
