how long btwn adjustments w/ your ortho?

#1 Post by artroxu »

My ortho waits 7-8 weeks between adjustments. Is this average or above average? How long does your ortho wait between adjustments? Just checking cuz 7-8 weeks seems like a long time to me. Does this have anything to do with my Smart Clip brackets? Why would my ortho wait this long?

My first adjustment was 5 weeks after my braces were put on. My daughter's adjustments are 5 weeks apart too. I think that sometimes bracket type changes the length between visits. But I have metal brackets on both top and bottom as does my daughter. Hope that helps!
2 Years 4 months 3 weeks and 4 days in full metal braces!

I have Damon brackets and my visits are 6-8 weeks apart. Some brackets lend themselves to less orthodontist visits, which is what makes them a more attractive option to adults in braces due to time constraints, work, etc... most of my friends who had "traditional" brackets had appointments every 4 weeks.

Sometimes I go in after 6 weeks and he tells me to come back in 3, sometimes he tells me he'll see me in another 6 without changing a thing... I would trust that your ortho knows what he's doing. If you go too fast your results may not last and you could have significant bone loss... which may not affect you now, but could affect you when you're older (teeth start falling out, etc)

I think the time between appointments is up to your certain orthodontist office. Mine in particular are 6 weeks apart.

i've read alot on this topic, and it all depends on the type of bracket that you have
i'm getting smartclips as well and its gonna be around 8weeks
traditional brackets that require ligs are usually 4 weeks

I always thought the doc decided how soon he/she needed to see you again based on what needed to be accomplished before the next adjustment. My adjustment appointments vary between five and nine week intervals as my ortho always tells me when he's finished my adjustment when to make another appointment for (I thought this was standard practice).

It's about the same with me. Right now I have appointments 4 weeks apart but when I started it was 6-8 weeks apart. And my ortho always tells me what he's going to do next and according to that he chooses the time of the next appointment.

I have "traditional" metal brackets which require ligs and my ortho has my appointments at 6 weeks apart. However, he has also said that it may be shorter or longer depending on where he feels my teeth are at.

Standard 6 weeks between visits.

My top wire hasn't been adjusted at all since it was first put on and there have been 2 appts since then. It's working fine though as far as I can tell with significant movement still going on.

The appts seem to be check-ups as much as required adjustments, to make sure things are going ok. Bottoms have had things done both appts though.

I got braced last week...my first adjustment is in one month. The dentist hasn't given me a schedule...I think he'll play it by ear - some times it will be longer between visits than others I'm sure.

The previous ortho I consulted with indicated that he would have me in every 8 weeks....

I am in "traditional" brackets as well.. My visits have been every 6 weeks or 7 weeks, depending on what the ortho wanted to acheive at that time.

Don't forget, its the archwire that moves the teeth, not the brackets

as long as they are moving, I'm a happy camper!
