Am I getting close? Opinions please...

Hi everyone, I have been just a lurker and haven't posted for awhile. I was told my braces should be coming off in June, but now I'm starting to doubt this. My ortho has been tweaking things and putting bends in and changing my rubber bands to different configurations every visit. I was given 28 months initially and he hasn't said anything about removing them. This last visit I was given 4 buttons on my bottom teeth for elastics to help pull the canines down to where they need to be. I believe I'm on my finishing wire because it hasn't been changed in the last several months. Does this sound like I have a few more months or are we doing the final adjustments? Any opinions would be welcome. By the way, it seems as though my 4 crossbites have been fixed. I can bite down and all my back teeth are meeting now. What do you guys think?

Not there yet in my treatment, but I would think without photos for us to see, you'll have to ask the ortho!

It would be helpful if you could post images of your current smile. However, you could always - ask your orthodontist!! Why haven't you done this? You should just ask how far along he thinks you are, how well its going, and how much longer he feels you will need to have them on.

My ortho told me I was pretty much done, and that we were finished working on my bite. He asked me what my concerns were, and he is fixing the imperfections right now with more bends in the wire. However, he told me that I need to wear braces for another 3-6 months to stabilize my teeth and their roots. Depending on how your ortho feels, this may be the same case.

Best advice - call and ask! You're the customer, he's providing you with a service... you should never feel uncomfortable asking questions about the services you are being provided.

Did he say the braces are coming off in June or are you getting that date based on your 28 month estimation time?

When I got my adjustment 7 weeks ago, the assistant said "Oh, looks like you're scheduled to get these off in June!" I mentioned it to the assistant at the last appointment. She said, "I'll guess we'll see what the Doc has to say. He is doing fine tuning right now." My next appointment will be in June. I'll try to get a definitive answer from the Doctor at that time. I really want to be done with this. I would post pictures, but I have no idea how to do that. I had to get some dental work done and had to get my wire removed a couple of months ago. Without the wire, I could really get a preview of what my finished product will be. I took pictures on my cellphone while it was out. Now, I'm just getting impatient. Thanks for the input everyone.
