Wire out of very back bracket. Problem?

#1 Post by Eric805 »

Hello,

My wire has come out of the very back bracket, the tube looking part, and has been out a couple weeks. Would anyone here recommend I go get it placed back in? My ortho is close so thats no problem.

I called my ortho anytime something happened. Sometimes they told me to wait until the next appointment and other times, they told me to come in right away.

I would call your ortho, they will let you know whether or not to come in or wait until your next appointment to get in placed back in the molar tube.

I have had that happen to both of my lower brackets.

I would call your ortho. Mine told me it was no big deal and I could wait until my next adjustment to have it placed back in.

If the wire begins to bother your cheek You can ask them if you are allowed to cut the wire down.

I was told I could if I needed to when I got my braces on. So My husband bought me a brand new pair of wire cutters to keep at home in case it happened again. but make sure you check with your ortho first.

I just had that happen less than a week ago...mine didn't come out completely, but it was kind of a V shape and rubbing against the inside of my cheek. My husband called my ortho and my ortho said to put it back in the tube and if he couldn't do that then to just pull it all the way out and set it on top of the bracket till my next adjustment.
Luckily my husband was able to push it back through the tube so that I didn't have to deal with it just sitting there.
Call your ortho and see what they want you to do.

I had already called the ortho and the lady that answered the phone said it could wait, I just wanted other opinions in case that lady didn't want me to come because they were busy or something. The wire has been out almost since right after my last adjustment, however my next is in only a week. Might as well wait I guess.

The same thing happened to me a few weeks after I got braces. I called the same day I noticed the problem and was told I HAD to go in right away. I went in the next morning and got it fixed. I was told that sometimes waiting to get something fix, that may seem minor to you, could extend treatment time by more than a month. If I had waited to get that wire back in the bracket my treatment time would've gone up by more than a month. At least that's what I was told...

So if I were you, I'd get it fixed. The lady on the phone is the secretary...the person you should be speaking to is the assistant. I got the assistants name and whenever I have a question I ask for her...we're paying big bucks for these braces so you should definitely ask someone with the experience rather than the secretary.

I had that happen to me and I was told to try and push it back in with a pair of tweezers. I was able to do that by using the tweezers to guide and I think an eraser to push from the other side. But I was told that if I couldn't get it to come back in and they would fix it.

I had this happen and I got it in with the aid of tweezers as well.

Though it happened on a Saturday afternoon and my next ortho appointment was on the next Friday and she only works Fridays and Saturday mornings. If it had happened another time I'd have gone in.

As I poked it in, I realised that the other side was out and must have been for a while as it was embedded in my cheek. I had to get it out of my cheek to poke that side back in.

I told my ortho about it and she said this happens (collaborated by what she saw on my archwire) that as I must be only eating softish food as directed (hah if she knew the bad habits I am in after reading on here what other people eat!) it must be taking too big pieces of food in my mouth so I should take care to cut my food up a bit more. She said the wire was coming out as it was the more flexible starter wires. And when I graduated onto the harder wires (the first was coincedentally at that appointment), the wire would not be as flexible and come out but it would risk brackets coming off. So I'm cutting my food up better now!
