After 6 days in braces..

#1 Post by spartanforever »

..I'm finally able to eat normally. I'm taking slow bites but eating solid food nonetheless. However, I'm noticing that I'm not eating as much as I used to - at least I don't snack as often.

Also, I have zero pain/discomfort. My teeth were sore for the first couple of days but I can hardly feel the braces now. Is that normal? Is my archwire too loose?

Oh - and I ended up going to an indian restaurant y'day - had to be very careful about ordering some dishes without any curry/turmeric. It's impossible!! I think at some point I'm just going to give in and start eating, and not worry about staining.

Congrats on the no pain!

Wish i was to that point, I'm finding that different teeth are hurting on different days. Started with the front teeth, now they are ok, but today I notice my back teeth are getting sore. Oh well, all a part of the process

Eating sure is a pain in the butt though.

It's not uncommon that you can hardly feel the braces after several days. The archwire isn't loose. You've just gotten used to the pressure that is being put on your teeth.

Congrats to you both for getting braced! :D

Hey spartan
did you manage to get the wandering bracket fixed?

Yup normal not to feel any pain, similarly, you may got a few days and then wake up one morning and your teeth are sore for no reason you can think of (other than braces :D )

When you go for your next adjustment you may have another couple of days of your teeth complaining about the new wire but it will settle again

Is there not a bit in the lig colours thread about what colours to have that don't stain as much as the others?
I have light pink ligs on and have had curry twice and spaghetti bolognese once and no staining for me.

Sparkles - I called the ortho and confirmed. Turns out that the molar tube was never wired in to begin with! So they are just going to bond it during my next adjustment in a month or so.

Curry stains - I'm so paranoid about it that its not even funny, next time around I think I'm going to look at that gray ligs..

I just got my brace and it really hurts. I haven't been able to eat since I had it put on. How long does this last for? :(

Indiestar congrats on getting braced!
It is likely to hurt/feel strange the next couple of days. Initially try soup, ice cream, fruit smoothies and then maybe tomorrow or the next day progress to softer foods like pasta (maccaroni cheese, lasagne, etc), fish, soft bread, that sort of thing.
Definately eat something or you will end up feeling miserable. I went down fav soups and fav ice cream route for the first few days. Felt miserable at the thought of being like this for 3 years LOL but it all soon settled.
If this is your first time in braces you need time to adjust to the braces, they are look/feel soo different in the beginning.
Took me just under 3 weeks to be eating normally again (but I have molar buildupsso makes it more problematic)

good luck!

indiestar - congrats - welcome to the world of braces. The first couple of days I got braces I really got into some introspection of what I got myself into. The #1 reason being food..gosh i could not chow on anything except soup and other liquids. It was so frustrating and annoying.

However, slowly and steadily, I tread my borders and before I knew it I was eating kinda sorta normally within a week.

Yes, you'll teeth will be sore and funny for the first couple of days then its one of two things - either you get used to the soreness or it just goes away. For me, I just can't tell which one it is.

Also, be a little cautious when you eat - take small bites and chew slowly. It's just a question of getting used to it!

Geez - look at me - a week in braces and I sound like a resident expert!! :)
