Well no breakages this time! Which is a huge relief.

Got my mouth packed with gauze now, just waiting for the bleeding to stop. So far, its been a much better experience than the first time.

And...

No more teeth to pull! :jump:

That's awesome!! Great job!!

Wonder why such a difference bt the first trip and the second? Maybe your surgeon lifted some weights for this go around?

Because the lower front incisor was only half-in the gum/bone. Thats the reason it was chosen. My orthodontist suspected that in a few years, maybe decades, that tooth would cause problems, so we decided to get rid of it now, instead of the usual 2 premolars.

It does mean that I'll have an odd number of teeth on the bottom, but I guess it will benefit my overjet since the top teeth have more room to move back than the bottom.

Worst part is I'm back on milkshakes and yoghurt again...

But it's got to be such a relief to be all done! Hardest part is over, one more step closer to having a great smile!

And it could be worse... milkshakes are great!!

I had 4 pre-molars extracted (top & bottom), and insisted on using a surgeon so I could have IV sedation. I was traumatized in the past by an unecessarily painful dental procedure, and now I pay to be totally put out (or at least almost), no matter the price.

Depending on the type of work & number of teeth, some insurance companies will only pay for certain levels of anesthetic (novacaine, nitrous oxide, IV), so I pay out-of-pocket for whatever they won't cover. And it is SO worth it!

CNickyD - Same for me. I had to have osseous surgery, and my insurance would only pay for the local. NO WAY! It was spendy, but worth every penny to be "gone" for the experience!!

I think I am going to look into the "getting knocked out" option. I am looking at August for extractions so I have some time. Wish it was sooner, just want to get this thing started so it can end sooner

Memran,
I also just had a bottom incisor extracted, I thought I was the only one!! And I will also have a 3 tooth line up under my two front teeth! Otherwise, I would have had the pre-molars extracted and the whole thing would have taken longer.
I am curious to see how fast our bottom gaps close up - right now, my gap looks HUGE, and it's taken me a week to relearn how to say words beginning with 's'!!
take care!

I wonder how big the difference is between having a regular dentist and an oral surgeon remove your teeth. I'm scheduled to have 4 pre-molars extracted on 6/30 and decided to have an oral surgeon do it, at the suggestion of a friend. His experience was that it hurt less to have his 4 impacted wisdom teeth taken out by an oral surgeon than to have his 4 premolars taken out by his regular dentist.

My oral surgeon said that most Asians respond badly to IV/general anesthesia (he's Japanese and works in SF so I'm sure he's seen it happen many a time) so I'll just be under nitrous and local anesthesia. Maybe I can plug in my mp3 player or something. I dread hearing the SNAP everyone's talking about!

I am sure it all depends on the dentist but I know my dentist pointed me to an oral surgeon. I would stick with the appt you made... pulling teeth is what they are paid to do, unlike dentists :-)

Oh for me its not the S's, its the TH's. When I say them, air goes through my top two premolar gaps :?

I'm also finding it pretty hard to bite things, like a sandwhich with my missing front tooth. Its still pretty sore if anything gets near the 'hole'.

Will be great to close that up again :)
