Hi all,

I had my braces fitted Tuesday morning and so far I haven't been in any pain just discomfort and having to get used to them attached to my teeth.

The only problems I have noticed are:

Chewing food is slow and if you catch the food on the inside of the cheek and then bite down it can hurt!
The teeth feel numb - pressure when biting down.
The metal bits glued to the teeth occasionally catch the inside of my cheeks but then again I am trying not to rely on wax all the time...I know possibly a glutton for punishment.
The wires which stretch across the now 'extracted' teeth can sometimes rub on the inside of the cheeks.
The cleaning of teeth after eating can be a right pain but I would rather that than find rotten teeth at the end of treatment.
Flossing between the teeth is very hard and need to find a better solution.

I do confess to having serious regrets last night but then I think about the end result.

Anyway all in all, touch wood, I am not in any serious pain....yet!

We had same brace day! :)

I too have no pain, just a dull ache when I chew, but I have to agree that cleaning is a real PITA right now, and I only have the top brace on! Its going to take twice as long when I get the lower brace on.

So congratulations on getting braces, and I wish you lots of fast movement :D

Lower brace on 27th August 2008

Hi Kishori
it all will get easier and you'll be eating, chewing and cleaning your teeth in no time :)

I haven't even attempted flossing with braces on (never got on well with it pre-braces anyways) so I use interdental brushes like the hygienist advised and they are much easier to use.

Don't be afraid to rely on wax..it's good stuff in the initial week or so. I think I went through a couple of packs the first week or so but don't need any now.

I hope you never get a hooked style bracket like they put at the far back hooked into the small saliva gland hole right above that area, that really makes my eyes water.
You also may go thru a few stages of the inside of your cheeks and lips sloughing off like a mouth period. I should patent that term.

Anyway welcome to the club and remember sometimes it gets worse before it gets better.

i to have the same problem with flossing, it was very hard to floss and not being able to see so good doesn't really make it any easier to use floss espicially with wires on the bracets. I talked to my dental hygenist about it, and she suggested using a sulca brush and a proxy brush. I have done this now for a few months and when i went for a check up early on last week, she said my gums were extremely healthy and to keep up the work with the sulca brush and the proxy brush. While I would like to floss its very difficult to to weave the floss through the wires and i was beginning to get frustrated. with the sulca brush, you just manuever around your teeth and gum line. it feels a little weird in the beginning but once you get used to it, your gums will be happy. Just don't press down really hard on the sulca brush, a nice medium pressure does the trick. yu can use it on the inside of your teeth and the outside of your teeth!!! hope that helps for ya!

as for the other stuff its all normal and it will get better!! hang in there!
