I had my first adjustment last week.
I was in and out in 10 mins.
Ortho simply took off all the ligs and archwires (basically the opposite to how they go on, it's nothnig scary or uncomfortable) I was shown a chart to say what colour new ligs I wanted, then the new archwires and ligs were put on.
I was a bit longer because I had a molar buildup taken off and a molar band fitted. (click www below to read my blog for more info if you wish)
Questions to ask....absolutely anything you are wondering or any concerns you may have had since getting your braces on (I know at my 2nd adjustment I'm going to be asking about my wobbly tooth)

 nope I wouldn't ask when the braces are going to come off at first adjustment...you should've been given a time frame as to how long your braces will be on for before or at the time of bracing.

good luck!

Thanks for the reply. Thankgod, it wont be bad! Yes, I was given a time frame of 20-24months. I am anxious to know if it will take more or less than the suggested time. Others, please let me know your experiences.

I just got my first adjustment today - was pretty smooth. The ortho tried a thicker archwired but because of the crookedness of my teeth, she had to go with a thinner one once again.

You'll feel a little soreness after the adjustment but nothing like the first time you got your braces on.

I think your first adjustment is a bit too soon to ask when they are coming off. I don't think the ortho would have any idea at this point. But if you have general questions about what is in your mouth or how something works def. ask those.

Everyone is different as to how fast their teeth move and what complications (if any) come up. I've read about some people who have gotten their braces off ahead of schedule and some are months past it. But I think if you average these out, the time frame estimates are pretty right-on.
