1st Tightning

#1 Post by loveletteraway »

I don't think anyone will remember, but a few weeks ago I made a post about how my braces are causing a gap in my two front teeth, and many people said that it was normal. Well, I'm going for my first tightning (I ma be wrong about the termonology, my apologies) August 11th, and I was wondering if the thicker band I'm getting will close the gap anytime soon. Thanks so much :)

I'm sorry for my horrible spelling, it's always been my Achilles' heel, haha.

It's hard to say. It would be worth asking your ortho, they'd be the only one to know. Our teeth seem to move in ways we don't expect, with gaps and shifts happening where we don't expect them. It's a surprise to the patient, but the ortho usually seems to expect it. At least that's been my experience.

I had the same problem. I mentioned to my ortho about the gap that had developed, he just laughed and told me not to worry. 10 minutes after having the powerchain on, it had completely closed up. You will probably get one later on.

Hey,

I have the same problem. I gap has developed in between my front two teeth and i never had a gap there before. My first adjustment is on the 8th of August. Does this mean il have to get a different type of brace or will he just tighten the ones i have??Is that a stupid question!!

I think it's good to just expect that your teeth may be in all kinds of crazy positions during your treatment period. It's kind of like one of those slide puzzles - everything may have to look very wrong before you can get it to look exactly right. :)

I had a gap open between some of my teeth when I first got braces, and when I went for my first adjustment my ortho was like, "Did you always have that gap?" Then he put a zing string around my teeth to close the gap (the zing string being a lot like a power chain - just an elastic string they crisscross between the teeth - although not as effective as a power chain since it seems to only work on the end teeth that its tied to, not the teeth in the middle). So anyways, the gap that has opened is now closed, just gaps around them that need closing! It will all happen in due time.

My last "official adjustment" actually created a gap where there wasn't supposed to be one. I went in for an SOS appointment related to something else and they put on a powerchain to fix the gap.

I have my next adjustment on the 11th too. I really want some new wires! They need to do something about my severe crowding on top, as it doesn't seem to be getting much better in back (around the molars).
