Your Mouthwash of Choice?

#1 Post by lueyfufu »

I learned last night that Listerine whitening mouthwash plus expander equals gross. I don't know if the hydrogen peroxide in the mouthwash reacted with the metal in my expander or what, but it was nasty and I won't be doing that again. :?

I'm thinking about picking up some Biotene. It's supposed to help alleviate dry mouth and help with minor mouth irritations - perfect for bracefaces, right? :)

What is your favorite mouthwash?
Lower braces: 7/1/08
Expander installed: 7/8/08
SARPE: 7/15/08
First adjustment for lowers: 8/5/08
Expander tied: 8/11/08
Upper braces: 8/28/08
Lefort I & BSSO: 1/8/13

Biotene, it kills germs, doesn't sting, tastes good and helps prevent dry mouth. Nuff said.

Peroxyl, by Colgate. It costs a little more, but helps with my constant mouth sores.

I use ACT for the fluoride. I haven't tried Biotene, but I've read enough about it on AW that I'm thinking about giving it a try.

A fluoride rinse is a good precaution whilst braced.
What you do with the left over stuff? I've got some in the cupboard still within its use by date....

I'm an ACT girl.
It gets the job done, but doesn't make me feel like I'm swishing acid around in my mouth.

I can't imagine using anything but Crest pro-health. I use Colgate plos-flur (flouride rinse) before bed. I use the pro-health every brushing.

Is that a precaution against cavities? Or something else?

And that also makes me wonder - why doesn't the dentist give a fluoride rinse at the end of regular cleanings for adults? Do they think our teeth are too old to be helped by it?

Anything with Fluoride that isn't Listerine. I don't know why Fluoride is particularly good for people with braces- does anyone know?

my dentist does a fluoride rinse after cleanings ... maybe you have to mention it ... I mean they can't (or shouldn't) tell you "no"

I use these, in order of favorite: JASON Sea Fresh, Tom's of Maine natural anticavity fluoride mouthwash, and Biotene.

I used Listerine. It so strong it stings a bit but it's really good.
