Double ligs

#1 Post by Katt »

Quick Question. I have double ligs across my top front teeth. So I have the wire, then metal wire ties on top of that that are tied across all the front and then rubber ligs on top of that. Does anyone know why this is done?

Hiii!
The only thing I can think of is to add more pressure to the archwire to move your teeth better?

Maybe you need a little more force on a certain tooth?

Who knows! Interesting though! Never heard of that before, but Im sure your othodontist know what he is doing. If you are curious, I would definately ask him they are there for ;)

Good luck

I had IPR done on my lowers last week. I have stainless steel ties around each bracket, then a zing string across my four incisors and a powerchain stretched across from 6-6. Got spaces to close.

hi katt,

i had the same across my front 6 teeth (upper and lower) as well. i think they were to ensure that no spaces reapperaed during the rest of the treatment. since the metal ties didn't cause any obstruction to changing the elastic powerchains, my Ortho just left them on for several months until i had them all removed just to visit the dentist for a proper cleaning.

when the metal ties came off i noticed my central incisors weren't as tightly side by side as before, but it never became a 'space' to be concerned about or anything, perhaps more relaxed/natural positioning.

Thanks all... Now thinking about it, it probably is an anchor, as I am having my canine on the top left brought down Finally (YAY) and the canine on the right got pushed too far over to the right so they are pulling it back toward the center again with a powerchain. So I guess it would make sense to keep the front four anchored well with all that pushing and pulling going on.
