Chewing with turbos???

#1 Post by confuzzle »

just got my braces on at 10am this morning, along with a bite turbos on the back of my front teeth. They are HORRIBLE! They are there to help my overbite, so my back molars don't touch. now only my four front teeth meet, and it's impossible to chew. Unfortunately, those teeth are starting to ache terribly and I can't eat at all...I wanted to ask my ortho but forgot in the heat of the "OMG--I HAVE BRACES!" moment. Does anyone have any tips for eating? I can't even have any soups with chunks! :(

I'm right there with you. At first I couldn't eat anything. I felt like I had forks on the back of my teeth. Trust me it does get better.

I have them too and it sucks....you just need to adapt your chewing....and it will become less annoying. However, I cannot eat lettuce...it is just way too gross swallowing chunks of lettuce leaf....

I've given up a lot of foods because of them for the time being...once they are off, I'll be so happy.

When i got my braces I got an biteplate on my top. The only thing touching the biteplate was one corner of my lower incissor. You have at least couple of teeth touching your turbos, so you can at least bite on something!!!!

I learned, even with this loysy situation, to eat quite fast. Your teeth are moving now and soon you can eat.

You will be doing more "biting' than chewing in the beginning, especially with bite turbos (I have had 3 sets of them so far in my journey). Eat soft foods that will melt in your mouth and bite up and down with the teeth that do meet.

It is hard in the beginning, but you will get used to it.
