Newbie here, got braces today....

I guess you know what I feel like. Not good. Motrin is not helping too much, I have moved on to vodka. I am going to check out the soft food cookbook, but just wanted to say HI, and I'll be here for the next 18-24 months!!

:D

Welcome! Glad to see you've found a backup solution for when the motrin doesn't help :)

G'day and welcome.

I never used painkillers, only alcohol.

Today is day 4 with braces, so looks like we will be going through this journey together! I am on call, so no alcohol for me, although that sounds good. Just trying to find healthy soft foods so I can get some weight loss out of this! That milkshake last night probably didn't help, but at least it filled me up! Spinach, while easy to eat, was a mess to clean up! About to try peanut butter and jelly, cut up since my front teeth are throbbing!

Doing well!

Day 2 was the toughest, and I had to give a couple of briefings, then cook at our company bbq. Luckily the coordinator picked up some applesauce for me, and I was able to eat cheesecake! Different days, different things bug me. I had some teeth pulled, plus some teeth that the arch wire isn't attached to yet. This has caused a cut across both lips. Today, it hurts if my front teeth touch each other. Trying to stay positive, planning my next colors (right now I have blue bands on each bracket!)

How are you doing with yours?

Hi, I was braced August 25, so I am on the same time schedule as you, 18-24 months. Have you seen any movement yet? My teeth have already moved a little, it is very exciting! :D

I hope you are having an easier time eating now. The vodka was a great idea. My teeth arent hurting much this week, but now they are starting to feel loose, eew.

I just got my braces today beachmommy but I guess I'm lucky because I'm in no pain or discomfort. They told me "soreness" would kick in in about 5 hours and that was at 9:30 am this morning so I'll just consider myself lucky (at this point anyway). I hope your pain subsides.

I wore braces back in the late 60's but I don't remember much about how it felt. Right now I just feel like road construction is going on in my mouth. They just feel so strange!

Eating lunch and dinner and brushing afterwards was really weird! Such a strange sensation but I'm hoping it doesn't take too long to get use to it.

I'm so glad I found this message board! I think it will help to go through this adult experience with other people.

18 months for me too....is it March 2010 yet *g*. We can have a party!

That's good to know but I have to say I'm also hoping to lose about 10 pounds throughout this process *g*

I'm checking in again! It is almost a week, and I am still hurting, although not as much as before. I still can't eat very much, and I am hungry! I'm noticing that the teeth most out of alignment are the ones that hurt the most. I took my daughter to her appt. yesterday and asked what kind of braces I had. I have Innovations, no elastics, some kind of modern thing. Can someone elaborate on these for me? I don't even know how to google this kind of stuff. Maybe we should get an "August 08 Braces" thread going, "Sept. 08 Braces," etc.

Happy one week birthday! :)

#12 Post by parsonsdeb »

It is my one week birthday too, congrats! :) I am having problems still eating, but it is getting easier. And losing a few lbs has been nice!!!!

I have the traditional braces. And the tie downs are a pain, there are two that meet up with the wire, I keep slicing my tongue or getting part of my tongue caught between. Overall not too bad, and I haven't used wax in days.

And to think, I asked for this torture!

Yup, we probably all asked for this!

#14 Post by parsonsdeb »

We did ask for this! LOL! I do like the weight loss though, I must admit! I am in a lot less pain, unless my front teeth hit each other, then all bets are off. The sores in my mouth healed fast (used a colgate mouthwash that cleans those out). Just one huge sore inside my cheek, but isn't hurting all of the time.

Only prob is I am scared to kiss my husband, and I can tell he is scared too!! I ordered a plastic piece on dentakit.com to cover the brackets, really hope it comes in today! :D

Welcome Beachmommy!

I will have my first adjustment in 2 days. Almost 1 month in, and it will be a looooooong ride! I was freaking out with the pain the first two weeks. Now I still rely on my blender for most of my meals (a few pasta dishes in restaurants later). My teeth are still sensitive. I still can't chew! I guess it is different for every one, as I read that some people could eat well after a couple of days only.

So I will be there for the next year and a half also! Let's hang on!

(Liked the vodka option! :)
