Yup, we probably all asked for this!

We did ask for this! LOL! I do like the weight loss though, I must admit! I am in a lot less pain, unless my front teeth hit each other, then all bets are off. The sores in my mouth healed fast (used a colgate mouthwash that cleans those out). Just one huge sore inside my cheek, but isn't hurting all of the time.

Only prob is I am scared to kiss my husband, and I can tell he is scared too!! I ordered a plastic piece on dentakit.com to cover the brackets, really hope it comes in today! :D

Welcome!

Welcome Beachmommy!

I will have my first adjustment in 2 days. Almost 1 month in, and it will be a looooooong ride! I was freaking out with the pain the first two weeks. Now I still rely on my blender for most of my meals (a few pasta dishes in restaurants later). My teeth are still sensitive. I still can't chew! I guess it is different for every one, as I read that some people could eat well after a couple of days only.

So I will be there for the next year and a half also! Let's hang on!

(Liked the vodka option! :)

Hi Everyone!
I just got braced on 8/28 so we will be suffering together. The lowers are braced, with some bar thing behind them - makes me slur my speech so I sound like I dipped into that vodka! I had to have an extraction. I found the pain from that to be worse than the braces pain, but then my ortho said he really isn't cranking down on them yet. (Yikes!) Uppers go on in six months.
I am on my 3rd Tylenol-free day, a huge accomplishment, but I am still sticking with my new favorite foods - oatmeal, soup and icecream. My husband swears eating gets easier, but I don't know if I believe him. By the time I feel like I can chew, it will be time for that first adjustment!
Just remember... this journey will be worth it. (Repeat as needed!)

I just got my upper brackets and spacers on yesterday and reading through the topics I got the feeling that almost everyone was looking forward to that weight loss. Im a 22 year old guy and at about 5'9" and 150lbs I'm not looking forward to it at all. I'm really athletic and have enough trouble maintaining this weight with all the running around and sweating I'm constantly doing. Now the idea of not being able to constantly eat is bugging me..I've never been a fan of protein shakes and bars but the pain of chewing food is pushing me in that direction... anyone else in the same boat? :?

Regular food

#23 Post by parsonsdeb »

I have had braces on almost two weeks, just now getting to more real foods. Biting is difficult, but was able to eat a bean burrito from taco bell today no problem! I have been doing a lot of protein shakes mixed with fruit just for the nutrients and because right now I eat so slow! Took over an hour to eat my braces friendly gyro recipe tonight!

I just wanted to offer my encouragement to all the newbies out there! I remember my first few weeks of braces, all the spaghetti-os and jello pudding cups. I lost a few pounds the first few weeks but after about week 3 i could chew pretty well (although i still at the time couldn't bite through things, i can now, xept for apples 'n stuff) the pounds came right back though, :| . It keeps getting better. Minor pain setbacks after adjustments but you'll be eating normal in no time. We're all here for you when you are having tough days. :D WELCOME!

Brackets fell off!

#26 Post by parsonsdeb »

So I noticed one of my brackets was no longer attached to my tooth, turns out it was actually two. So they went ahead and did my first tighening yesterday, wasn't planning on that! Afterwards, immediately hit up the motrin, and chewed on freedent gum. Chewed on a bite wafer last night and this morning (a plastic like piece to chew on to get the blood circulation going), and chewed on a hamburger patty last night. The only real pain I have are the new sore spots inside of my mouth! So far not as bad as I expected, but I will just go ahead and keep up with the motrin.
